New player. Starting with 2024 rules. How do you determine hit points. Under barbarian it say d12 for hit die. So HP will be 12 + modifiers. At lvl 2 do I get 12 up again??
No you get to either roll a d12 (range of from 1-12) and add what you rolled plus modifies, or you can use fixed hp which will give you, ...I think 7hp plus modifiers. Average of 1d12 is 6.5 and I believe 5e rounds up rather than down, but I might be mistaken. In 3e I think we rounded down (or house ruled an alternated 6 on odd numbered levels and 7 on even?).

Each time you gain a level, you gain an additional d12 Hit Die. Roll that die, add your Constitution modifier to the roll, and add the total (minimum of 1) to your Hit Point maximum. Instead of rolling, you can use the fixed value of 7 Hit Points.
Ok. That's what I thought. Just that 2024 players handbook doesn't say, unlike 5e.
The 2024 Player's Handbook describes this in Chapter 2: Creating a Character. The initial HP stuff is under "Step 5: Fill In Details" while the description of gaining HP at higher levels is under "Level Advancement".
