I'm trying to build a homebrew double bladed axe like that used by Ajanni Goldmane in MTG.
I want it to do a 1d8 slashing attack, plus a bonus 1d8 slashing attack. I want it to be heavy, reach, two-handed. I'm thinking it would require a Battle Axe an/or Halberd weapon proficiency.
I've tried creating the item, but it always takes the damage die of the weapon I'm basing it on (either Battleaxe, Halberd, or Glaive). When I base it on Glaive, it hits most of the requirements, but uses the damage die of the glaive and doesn't seem to add the additional modifiers like bonus attack or change in damage die.
Start with a weapon with the correct damage dice and use the "Weapon Property" and "Ignore Weapon Property" to add in the reach and heavy etc or delete versatile. Write in the description about the bonus attack
Then on the character sheet add in the bonus attack and a BA.

What am I doing wrong?

Best way I've found so far.
The homebrew tools weren't designed to make weapons so different from the official weapons. I suggest doing what Mikaos said.
Homebrew base weapons are planned.
