like l know that for the most part dnd is medieval, but l have heard of people using guns, and not just flint locks, but laser rifles and powerarmor,so is this level just dm homebrew,or what?
on a related note, stuff like printing presses and makeup, are those available?
l am guessing everything l have asked is up to the dm,but l want to ask this anyway.
That’ll depend on setting and GM. Forgotten Realms has gunpowder and handheld firearms, Eberron does not. Most settings probably have printing presses.
It’s not right to describe default D&D as medieval. It’s mostly more Renaissance, but really a weird amalgamation of ideas from various eras of history. Different settings fall in different places along the timeline. Greyhawk is more medieval, Forgotten Realms is SUPER Renaissance (and FR is the default setting for 5e), Eberron leans more Early Modern. Individual GMs are always empowered to adjust to their hearts’ desires. There’s no answer that’s going to be universally true.
The Dungeon Master’s Guide has stats for high-tech stuff (laser rifles, etc.) and some suggestions for how/why to add them to a game, but that’s very much up to the GM.
