Has anybody created a spreadsheet that shows a given class with the average damage output for that class at a given level?
I know that it would be based on stats but the spreadsheet could have a stat block fill in or ignore stats so no bonuses to attack.
The reason for this is I heard people ranking the classes by who is the best and who does the most damage and I am a numbers guy so I like to see this broken down to see the numbers.
They exist, but there are some issues with that, for instance, Level by level, Vs avg AC of all enemies or avg AC based on CR, do you look at burst damage vs sustained (A battlemaster for instance can have an absolutely insane alpha strike, but a champion can do crazy damage per round if you crit fish)
What race/class combos are consider, do you include or exclude feats? What magic item do you use?
Do you include UA variant class features like ranger casting hunters mark without concentration so they can then cast flame quiver?
I made a very extensive workbook that just looked at spells by spell level vs average monster stats based on CR, which you also had to put in stats, item modifiers... and even then I had to subdivide based on subclass choices like evoker vs warlock with and without EB invocations, vs wildfire druid with its spirit out.
My workbook, which only looks at spells was insanely complicated, especially when you have to add in crit chance for spell attack rolls, half damage on failed saves. It didn't even look at aoe vs single target, damage over time vs upfront damage. Concentration vs no concentration.
Basically what I am saying is for any class, there are hundreds of combinations that can influence DPR, that its impractical to ask a such a broad question. Even within a tier, every class spikes at differing levels, that literally who wins at lvl 3 and who wins at level 4 might shift.
The reason for this is I heard people ranking the classes by who is the best and who does the most damage and I am a numbers guy so I like to see this broken down to see the numbers.
While respecting that you're a numbers guy, I'm confused by the best part in your sentence. Best at what? Average damage output? In what context? By throwing that PC into a video game situation or actual table stuff. I'm certain, that if you hand me the BEST PC (damage/combat wise), I'll find a by the rules, as written situation to make that PC among the worst in damage/combat.
