But if a disguise is needed, odds are at least one person in your party is probably proficient with a disguise kit. Just paint yourself green and blend in with the rest of the crew.
You're a unique and unmistakably blue water genasi;
You're infamous.
You have a sizable enough bounty to consider employing a disguise wherever you travel.
Seems your tack is all wrong, matey. Your disrepute is a strength that shouldn't be sullied with attempts at common disguise. I mean, sure, there are times where a disguise could come in handy to further some scheme, but you appear to have a mind for the part of something so much better. Hell, you should be nominated as the nefarious, fear-spreading captain of your bandy league of freebooters and sea wolves for all the reasons listed, not covering yourself with flimsy disguise rags that clearly don't work anyhow.
Yes, it's true; you're the one they'll hang first when the catching is caught, but until then ... !!!
This is where the 'Pirate' variant of the Sailor background comes in handy. :D

Sometimes it's easier to be sneaky and not raid a town while traveling off the ship is all

Yeah, but the background variant doesn't require you to raid a town now does it? :) Just a friendly "ok barkeep, I'll have some food and some drinks and I'd like to eat alone without anyone alerting the guards. That won't be a problem, right?" and then you throw them a few coins just as an incentive.

I agree it would be more fun to just lean into it

Lazy pirates are what's behind all the problems in the world. Especially global warming.
