As I only started with 5th edition, spellcasting (especially Caster's preparing spells and the Wizard's Arcane recovery for some reason) really gave me a struggle.
As a DM, the hardest thing to learn was to ease off the railroading - now I am an improviser so I'm used to going off on wild tangents at a drop of a hat. My issue was that if the party decided they want to go to the volcano, well now my battle map at the town is wasted after I spent loads of time making it, I haven't prepared anything with the volcano and now they are going to avoid the encounter - boring session alert!!!
I did learn to adjust however and it helped improve my DMing; the trick I found was that it's the story hooks and using what the characters want to entice them towards the way you want the story to go, without detracting from player agency.

The hardest part for me was getting use to the combat and magic system in 5e after be accustomed to 4e's AEDU system for so long.
