I was looking into possibly buying the Monster Manual, but I see that there is 20 dollars worth of compendium content available to purchase. I had previously thought the Monster Manual only includes a bunch of monsters. What kind of other content will I find in the compendium? I understand what's included in setting books, but I'm unsure if it's worth it for me here, since I'm only interested in the monsters, technically. In the explanation next to it it also says "with all the artwork", does that mean buying the monsters indiviually or as a bundle won't include the monster pictures?omeglexender
If you buy the compendium version of the monster manual, you'll be able to read the digital version of the book but not use the monsters in any of the tools. For example, you'll be able to access https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/mm/monsters-a#Aarakocra but not https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/aarakocra. The former is the compendium entry within the book, the latter is the listing that can be used in the encounter builder, combat tracker, or as an extra on a character sheet.

The Monster Manual has lore to many of the more famous Monsters in it, things like
- Different Types of Dragons, metallic vs chromatic, personalities, how their lairs look
- hierarchyof Devils
- Lore about other creatures like orks, giants that kind of stuff
buying the monsters seperatly probably only gets you the statblock, the lore is in the compendium content i assume
