-Intro-
You grew up never knowing true peace, every night, every day you were at risk of an attack from the Monsters of the Veil. No one knows quite how these monsters came to be, many have gone looking, sailing or flying into the dark blanket of the Veil, few ever return. The local guards are usually lamb to the slaughter for these creatures. The only sense of safety found was in the Wayfinders. Originally a guild created before the Veil. a group of the strongest and most curious of adventurers, the Wayfinders are now the last barriers for the people, especially the commonfolk. Wayfinders are revered throughout society, seen as almost a VIP through the lands they can get away with murder! So to speak. Not much is known on how to become a Wayfinder, though as part of your dream you've figured out some basics. The Trial of the Wayfinder is an annual event held to test and recruit aspiring members. It is located in one of the major cities, chosen randomly each year. The location is a mystery, and took some hard work to figure out but you know this year it takes place in Modania. You've heard the trials can be tricky, grueling, and outright deadly at times. Come Prepared.
Each city had its own method of protection from the Veil. From Clockwork Contructs, to large magical barriers.
More details will be provided during and prior to the Session 0/1 There is also the world map here below! It shows the inhabited world, use it to look for a hometown!

Hi all, I'm an already confirmed player for this campaign but thought it'd help to give a sneak peak into a character already accepted and fleshed out. Figured it'd be nice to hear from someone who has been playing at his table for a little while now. He's a great DM who really works to make his worlds feel alive and immersive and some goofy as hell NPC's. He paints wonderful pictures in his descriptions of locations along with the work he puts into his maps and characters you encounter. Very roleplay focused and gives great combat encounters. This current campaign is very exciting, love a good idea for horror adventure. I do not count as one of the three, so don't worry about that. Looking forward to playing with you guys!
Player Name: Dani Pronouns: They/Them Player Age: 32 Experience: Have only been playing since before Christmas Character Name: Bonnie Sole Species: Harengon Class: Twilight Cleric [Follows Selune] Hometown: Nettlebee
Backstory: Bonnie is an adventurous, outgoing woman who her parents go back and forth on whether to describe her as a handful or a helper. She is somewhat of a party girl, going out on the town when she's able and ensuring everyone makes it home safely. She also helps out with the family business and works one of the many store fronts around town, if people don't know her from her nights out they most likely know her from her day time work. Her adventurous nature has recently led to her digging into her lineage to see if anyone else was "cool" or "interesting" like her. During this deep dive into her family she discovered that her great grandma was part of the Wayfinders, It was a small trunk full or stuff that was practically buried in an attic but she poured over each document inside and became determined to follow in her footsteps. It was her mission to find a way into the guild and so she worked her tail off until she'd learned the location of this years trial and now she eagerly awaits the journey into this next chapter of her life.

I have some characters idea. Either a gunslinger (if it's allowed) or a paladin.
Character Name: Umdan Species: High Elf Class: Fighter(gunslinger)
Orphaned at a young age, raised by a dwarf smith, Umdan learned to craft and use various firearm. Thats the general idea anyway, I can get more details.
Character Name: Ianorin Species: Eladrin Class: paladin (oath of the ancients)
Ianorin originally came from the feywild, but one day accidently interrupted some cultist performing a ritual, which transported him to this world. He was rescued by some old warrior who taught him how to fight. Again, thats the basic idea.
I have a few idea depending on the world makeup..... basing my idea around a tribal warrior/ Barbary corsair idea if you have a dessert area in the world that as available. Think the Guardian from tne Mummy mixed with Barbosa and part of a slightly shadowy Trader Confederation.

Backstory: Ambushed by a horde of monsters at dead of night, the poor orphan Encke was bound to reach his end, that is, until a kind Wayfinder charged in and saved his life. Though abandoned after being saved, Encke can't seem to discard the second chance granted to him. Wandering the streets of Borb (I'm not sure if this is fitting but I can change it later the name is funny) as he had thousand of times before, Encke sensed something different, the once endless stream of hopeless thoughts were no longer squirming in his head, for once the streets looked brighter and the air clearer. Looking at the busy people walking the streets with intent and a clear destination, Encke had an epiphany of his own: to be a Wayfinder and end the misadventures he's been living and properly thank the kind Wayfinder who had saved him, after all, its not like he is qualified to work anywhere else so might as well give it a try. Determined, he set off to find the location of the next Wayfinder trail...but something subtly follows behind.

I'm very new to DnD but I am interested in trying it out, and I just want to be a part of some cool adventures so I hope you'll be able to accommodate me :D Also sorry if the backstory is inconsistent or hard to read anywhere, I'm good at English but I can still slip up ;; (Willing to change parts of my character to fit your story)
Hey! My name’s Sina (or you can call me Rocket). I use he/him pronouns, and I’m 20.
I’ve played a few campaigns, and I’m really into roleplay-heavy games where characters get to grow and the story feels alive. This game sounds like an awesome mix of chaos, horror, and fun combat, so I’m interested.
Riven grew up drifting from place to place, doing whatever it took to make ends meet. He picked up street performing at a young age, mostly for coins but also because it was a good way to keep people distracted. He got good at lying, slipping in and out of places, and pretending to be someone else when needed. Most of it was harmless, just part of surviving. Somewhere along the way, he came across a strange book that seemed to react to him, and ever since then, little bits of magic have started slipping into his tricks. He doesn’t know what it means or where it’s leading, but it hasn’t stopped him from using it. When he heard about the Wayfinder trial, it sounded like a chance to try something different, maybe prove himself, or maybe just see what he’s capable of.
I also have another character Idea for a warlock, so I am more than open on playing any classes. My discord is oddestrocket!
Hi, I'm Blogi. I go by He/Him and I'm 21 years old.
I've only played DnD for the past few years (I've also DM'd, not just played), but I've been roleplaying my entire life. I started as a little kid with Roblox stuff, evolved into forum roleplay as I grew up, and just never really stopped. I eventually shifted into writing, though. I prefer to keep a good balance of seriousness and humor (but serious more often than not).
Name: Ardyn Bin
Race: Human
Class: Paladin (Oath of the Ancients)
Ardyn Bin, Knight of the Veil
Ardyn was a noble son sold into squiredom, never to know his noble father and instead to serve a Knight of the Forgotten Fork named Friedrich, who in turn served Sir Thimbleberry Pebblewick Jr., the Low Duke of Modania. He spent most of his time carrying swords and the other half cleaning them. These Fork Knights shaped young Ardyn. When the locals failed, when the Wayfinders were busy, these knights were the last resort, and a young Ardyn watched their work from afar: atop horses, upon sail boats, within the safety of cellars, his little ears listening to the clanging of swords. Even as powerful as they were, a knight or two still seemed to die with each encounter, as they were no Wayfinders by any means. This instilled a sense of impermanence within the boy that he would carry with him into adulthood. During his childhood, he also read quite frequently, as he was seemingly disallowed to do anything else except train. This hobby developed into a lifetime passion of reading, but mostly pulpy feel-good stories the equivalent of real-world comic books.
By the time Ardyn reached his teenage years, a once closed-off Friedrich, who had always been more of a captor than a mentor, began to impart an ideal upon him that no other knight shared: the veil and its creatures were a part of nature and were the natural predators of Men. They were not evil; they were like what wolves were to deer. And he told him of civilized society’s great evils and failures, pointed out that - with the threat of these veil monsters - conflict between Men was decreasing, albeit not ceasing. Ardyn did not - and still does not - entirely agree with his mentor, but as he grew and the Wayfinders overtook their responsibility of these veil monsters, he kept what Friedrich said in mind. And as he was officially knighted at the age of nineteen, involving himself in human conflicts, he found himself increasingly jaded with civilized society. And, like the other knights, began to take on a ruder personality to outsiders, a self-defense mechanism as they constantly undertook criticism from everyone to peasants to nobility. They were never good enough.
Eventually, he began to think of the veil’s origin: if Friedrich was right, and these monsters were created by nature itself - whether it be sentient or not - then perhaps they also had some insight into men as well. That, if a creature could create such “evil” it could also be compelled to create “good.” And even if not, that curiosity into the veil monsters he’d had since childhood had grown into an obsession. Still the polite-yet-grumbly knight he’d always been, he was no longer consumed by his oaths of service as a knight. Instead, he vowed himself to nature – to the protection of men, and animals, and the dirt the planet was paved with. And so, risking the threat of execution, Ardyn of the Fork Knights deserted in the middle of the night, chancing everything on becoming a Wayfinder and uncovering the mysteries of the veil.
