I remember the time my players fought a demilich in an encounter I had spent months preparing. It was the finale for one player's backstory. The demilich had just trapped the wizard in one of its soul gems, and the party didn't know if he was alive or not. In righteous fury, the paladin attacked, rolling a Nat 20, and used a 4th Level Divine Smite with her Flame-Tongue Longsword. The demilich hadn't taken any damage, but she killed it in one hit, literally cleaving the skull in half. I just sat there dumbfounded for a second. I had to give it to her. Truly legendary. #DDBStyle

Reality is more amazing than we are often led to believe.
Playing a divination wizard, after a long rest I rolled my 2 portent dice. Luckily for me and unluckily for the DM, I got two 1s. For the whole day it felt like my character had the fate of every potential roll made by the DM in his hands. That was a whole day rush. #DDBStyle
It was a moment when most of the party was down. One person died, I passed all my death saves, but useless, other were hanging to their dear life on death saves. Our lizardfolk druid was making a roll and we were all hanging there. It was low level party, we were about level 2 or so and rolls weren't in our favor on final encounter. It was also online game and we were practically without resources at this point. Anyway, our druid made a death save... Nat 20! And he proceded to launch an attack which killed the boss! Relieved isn't even a good descriptor of what I was feeling at that time.
We were in a truly epic fight at the end of a homebrew arc when my druid got stuck in a series of Hold Person spells. I was completely locked down for the entire fight. Not what you want to see but sometimes that's the story the dice want to tell. It was certainly an intense and unforgettable moment!
In Tomb of Annihilation I am running in the dinosaur races as a velociraptor (Circle of Moon Druid) with one of my companions riding me with pretty high animal handling. I have already cast Enhance Ability to help with my Dex checks as a Dino, and have been doing quite well, staying in the lead after some bad rolls by the other racers. As we near the last 2 checks, we both roll terribly (even with advantage) and now we are tied with the young T-Rex who is always favored to win. Last check, with advantage, I get a 5… and then a nat 20. We come in first, my companions and myself make some good coin on placing bets on myself, and things seem to be alright in the world at the moment. #DDBSTYLE
PCs walked into the council chambers after a successful mission. But, a rival group was taking credit for their accomplishments, and the council was enraptured by their story. The PCs were not influential, and they were about to do something stupid. The barbarian, of all people, came up to the council and attempted to set the record straight, but he had only a +1 Charisma bonus and no proficiency. The other players started talking about how they would take this situation into their own hands. But, then the barbarian got a natural 20, and the council was so impressed that they turned out the rival group and gave a plot of land, inhabited by monsters of course, to the PCs as compensation.
well, this is a nat 1 story, not a nat 20 story to change things up. But After miserably failing a persuasion attempt against a ghost, I try to prove him wrong, cutting myself with a sword that pain monster to show I'm a tiefling. Sadly, it is how I discover that I am indeed a monster, epic revelation! (even OOC, my backstory was rather open, and I didn't know either, the DM just message me seconds before to ask if it was okay, it was an incredible moment !)
I was DMing a group and I was still pretty new to the whole thing, and the players were around level 8. They stumbled upon a hidden abandoned city and were investigating the ruins, that was until they woke up a hydra and were thrust into battle. The hydra was deadly and they were not rolling well at all, so they were all very close to death. In desperation the paladin raised their hand to the sky and called for their god Helm to protect them, they rolled a natural 20, and so Helm came down to the battle field and absolutely destroyed the hydra. My players absolutely found this so cool and even after a year of playing (the campaign has long since ended) they still bring it up and laugh about how lucky they were. #DDBStyle
It was as a DM on the cusp of my first player death. They were facing a Remorhaz. The PC was the party's cleric and they needed healing badly to avoid TPK. NAT 20! #DDBStyle
#DDBStyle Half the party downed, and I’ve passed two death saves fighting an adult green dragon. Make that third roll hoping for another pass, but instead get a critical fail. Spend the next round hoping someone can heal me before they go down too or I fail my last death save.
It happened last night.... goblin attack that destroyed the town... my PC was a level 0 dock worker (not even a class yet). In a moment of panic I decided to grab for the scimitar of the goblin rushing me.. even though I had never used one before.... NAT 20! Who was more shocked that I was able to take his scimitar? Me or the goblin :) #DDBStyle
My character, a human ranger, had been separated from the party and was being chased through a city by a homebrewed assassin with lots of quirks that made the assassin hard to kill. My character was down to his last 10 hit points. The assassin closed the distance, and I decided to make a last stand, hoping to leave an impression on the assassin but expecting to die. My first attack missed, but my second roll to hit was a natural 20. With the critical damage, I was able to kill to assassin before my character collapsed, exhausted, on the street. #DDBStyle
I once had a Rogue named Ceric. He was your stereotypical Hide in Shadows/Stealth high DEX guy in 3e. The party was once on a ship and it was attacked by pirates. My brilliant idea was to have Ceric climb the mast and swing over to the other ship and help the party. So Ceric climbs the 120' mast and promptly fail his DEX save to not fall from the mast. He falls 120' He was 3rd level at the time with about 20 HP. The DM handed me my 12d6 for damage and I was prepared to just start making a new character for the next session. however, the DM insisted that I roll the damage. I take this mega handful of dice and drop them on the table. I was never so happy to see so many 1s in my life. Ceric took 19 points of fall damage. Not only did he survive, he got right back up. He survived many more adventures, but never did well on boats. #DDBStyle
My players were facing their first dragon ever, an adult white one, in the depths of an icy mountain range, having at stakes the safety of a major mage city which the dragon's found an exploit to. The battle begins and most of the party falls unconscious to lair actions and the breath weapon, but the druid that was carrying the barbarian as a giant owl so they could reach their flying foe did a 180 and brought the bard back, who mass healed everybody up. The battle rages on, the dragon is getting low and starts flying up to flee through its emergency exit on top of the mountain… and then it happened. The druid, a very tall human, spent his turn to pick up the halfling bard so she had enough range to cast Sleep. She rolled well, and the dragon plummeted to the ground, dying from falling damage.
I remember when my sister tried to enchanted me so I obey her. I failed every single dice and I was so stressed because I didn't know what to do. BUT, suddenly, the last dice that would determinate if she full enchanted me or not. I rolled so high and I saved myself. I was very scared in that moment hahahaha I am a barbarian and my intelligence is... well. You know. #DDBStyle
During Lost Mine of Phandelver, in Cragmaw Hideout, we managed to take a shortcut straight to the room where the Goblin Boss, Klarg was residing. After defeating him along with his pet wolf and a few minions, our party barbarian cut off Klarg's head, and marched through the hideout commanding the goblins to yield to him and accept him as their new leader while flaunting the head of the dead boss. Rolls for intimidation... NAT 20.
Surrendering to his show of strength, the barbarian ordered the goblins to reveal all they knew about the kidnapped dwarf, who they then released in addition to revealing Klargs orders from the Goblin King regarding the Black Spider. With this new information, the goblins were ordered to use their connection to their King to learn more about the black spider, as well as undermine other goblin operations in the area. #DDBStyle
I rolled 3 nat 1s in a row, making my lvl 1 monk being naked by goblins grease... BUT, landed the last hit on the bugbear that killed 1 of our party, so my monk can say that killed a bugbear naked (?) #DDBStyle
I was DMing; my party was exploring a house that was the hideout of a group of assassins. These assassins were plotting on killing the king, and the party was to stop them. Most of the foes inside the building were modified assassin stat blocks, but with one main change, they had spells. But most importantly, a level 20 arcane trickster rogue was hiding somewhere inside the house, waiting to attack the party of 7 level 7s. I knew they could win, because of the powerful magic items I had given the players and huge advantage in the action economy. They finally encountered the rogue, who after getting surrounded on all sides, cast an invisibility spell. Due to the rogue being a halfling, they were able to sneak past. Then the next round came, and the rogue took its turn. I rolled to hit, with advantage, against the party's blood hunter. Natural 20. Instakill on the blood hunter, with the damage over double the player's max HP. My heart stopped for a moment, and we briefly grieved for the character. Sadly, the player was not too attached to the character, and neither were many of the others. But two of the party member's characters were siblings of the lost character. That was the end of the session. It was the first time I had killed a PC, and it was impactful.
During Hoard of the Dragon Queen my group's fight with a black dragon (which we were severely unprepared for), our fighter of the group rolled 3 Nat 20s inflicting over 100 points of damage. It was an insane and completely turned the tides and we ended up killing the creature after one of the most epic battles of the campaign thus far. Fighter's are seriously OP #DDBStyle
