The Ruins are a set of tunnels and alcoves that were once the first Home of the monsters in the Underground.
A stream still runs through the Ruins.
Grand flower beds still exist in the far “West” end of the Ruins.
The Golden Flowers, red edge leaf bushes and varieties of assassin vines with gray, brown, silver, or white leaves and clusters of grape like berries, a variety of Fungi and other Underground plants can be found here. Toriel and Flowey make the trek to tend to these flower beds a few times a year.
Froggits (Boggle), Chwinga (like Whimsun) and other tiny and small monsters can still be found alone or in small bands in the Ruins.
Toriel and Flowey live at the far “East” end of the Ruins; close to the passage to Snowdin.
Scene: Jerry - Your sensors indicate it is late morning. You are in the lobby of the Snowdin Inn.
Your friend, Vulkin, sent you here to find and help Chara and Sans. You heard of them before.
Vulkin would like you to persuade Chara to help in Hotland. Anyone else you could convince to come along would be good too.
Vulkin knows you can be helpful in Snowdin.
Vulkin is rarely useful in cold weather.
You traveled through the majority of Hotland, Waterfall and Snowdin to get here.
It was late in the evening when you stepped in out of a storm.
The on duty clerk asked if they could help you.
You said, "A mop. A Towel. A bucket." The items were hastily provided.
You spent the remainder of the evening in the lobby thawing out, cleaning up the melt, and doing what self maintenance you could without making too much noise.
Jerry, after finishing up thawing, drying and cleaning up, will walk back up to the clerk and hand back the supplies given to him. In a male, soft, upbeat tone, Jerry will say. "Wha... Why tha..tha..thank. I am loo..looking for Chara." Jerry is a slim 5ft, 8in tall Warforged. He is made up primarily of copper and silver components with wires coming out the top of his head, imitating medium length hair. He wears Scale Mail over the top of components to protect them and wields a Handaxe, hanging from his side, with a Spear and Crossbow attached to his back.
The desk clerk responds, "Oh, well, um, they're probably at Pa-Papyrus' house. Um, you're Tsunderplane, aren't you?! Um... may I have your auto-graph? I saw you on the news!"
The young clerk, a lapine, is clearly excited; unintentionally hopping a bit.

Jerry's head twitches a bit and responds to the young clerk. "O...Of course."Jerry reaches out his hand and extends a finger. Out the tip of the finger a quill comes out, pre-inked. He then finds a piece of parchment and signs his name. "Tha....Thank."Jerry then turns around and makes his way out of the Inn and heads for Papyrus' house.
Tsunderplane (Jerry) is one of the oldest in "Underground". He fought in "The War" between monsters and humans that resulted in "The Barrier". He rarely speaks of it. He may not remember much or simply be quiet about it. He is known for reporting situations during "The War" and shortly after. Younger generations know him as a kind hardworking individual in the Royal science and energy department. There is old image of him flying, reporting weather, leading bombing runs and doing info "podcasts".
Energy is so scarce now that these are rare. His own material is from very long ago. Before his speech issues.
(( Jerry sees Grillby's, a well known local pub, not yet open and the library, long abandoned. As he is approaching the house, he can see someone else is at the front door. ))
Jerry observes the stranger from a distance and if they are showing no signs of aggression, he will approach the stranger and greet them. "Gree....Greetings, my na..name is Jerry."
It has been nearly ten months, Toriel, since Chara and their odd gang started working more aggressively in the outskirts of the Ruins and the Snowdin Forest to pull together additional resources and helping repair the Library.
You are now finally able to start doing actual review and cataloging rather than emergency preservations and storage.
You place a rather large leather bound chest on the bench next to your work table. The plate on the domed top near the front identifies it as the artifact collections of Anaxi Zephries.
You do not recall the name. You are sure based on the catalog records you have in tact, this particular chest came at some time from the Ruins archive to the Snowdin Library.
Opening the chest, you find descriptions of Anaxi Zephries as a merchant, sage and Cartophile - a person with an interest in maps. They served as patron for numerous expeditions of exploration. From the writing style and dialect, this is clearly a collection from before "The War". The collection contains notes and initial maps from the early stages of an expedition into an area identified as the Barrier caverns. Apparently, this Anaxi Zephries was obsessed with collecting any further journals, notes, maps, and other documents from this earlier expedition. It seems one of this Anaxi Zephries' ancestors was a part of the expedition. It was attempting to find Daoine Gloine, a mythical city of the Barrier caverns inhabited by “people of glass” and rumored to be advanced magically and technologically. Anaxi Zephries had long sought to learn the truth of the expedition’s demise.
In addition to the various maps and materials is a metallic sphere taking up about half the chest resembling a large brass medicine ball some two feet in diameter described in the notes as "Gearbox, cartographer’s assistant".

Scene: Astar - You woke late morning today in your room at the Snowdin Inn.
You heard Chara and Sans talking (or arguing) about needing to gather resources at the bar.
You heard Grillby mention that starting right here in Snowdin might make sense.
"After all, there are still some game and building materials to be found in the Forest."
You're not sure if those two were listening, but you're pretty sure you know where they would be right now.
Chara rarely leaves Papyrus' house before midday when she's in town.
The Underground operator line still works from the booth in the Snowdin Inn lobby.
Papyrus' house still has a line. Of course, you could just walk over.
Or maybe you want to do something else before catching up with them?

I walk out the door of the inn. take a sniff of crisp air then I walk over to papyrus' house and knock on his door two good times
Chara, Sans, You hear two loud knocks at the front door.

Sans hears the knock on the door and cracks a larger than usual smile.
A deep growl-like voice booms from the other side of the door. ”Who’s there”
Sans awaits a hopefully humorous response.
