Khessa from the corner of your eyes notice your "mentor" falling to the ground. You can also notice the exact moment his soul leaves the body: your tattoo burns hotter than any fire and you take 1 acid, 1 cold, 1 fire, 1 lightning and 1 poison dmg.
[[ OOC: OK, these are 5 separate damage, so we should treat each one individually. Khessa suffers 1/2 = 0.5 = 0 from each, thanks to Eric's protection. I guess this means she still feels the tattoo burn, but she also feels the protection reduce the burn to mere discomfort instead of actual damage.
P.S.: I love you Eric! ]]
Round 3
As her 'mentor' dies, Khessa feels the tattoo burn, but she also feels the protection reduce the burn to mere discomfort instead of actual damage. Her grateful blue eyes turn briefly to Eric, and her lips, unable to speak due to the Silence spell invoked by her beloved dwarf, nevertheless form the words: "Thank you, my beloved shield".
The blonde arcane warrior then runs to Rath, placing herself on the opposite side from Eric, and holds out her hands to grab the Red Wizard and prevent him from moving.
'If I block him and thus prevent him from leaving the silenced area,' the tall adventuress thinks 'no matter how powerful a caster he is, he won't stand a chance. We can use him as a punching bag until he collapses on the ground. Poor Calvin will soon be avenged!'
[[ OOC: @DM: From what you were saying about magic items being activated without components, it obviously won't be as easy as Khessa hopes... I imagine Rath will have an item like that and can cause trouble with it. But Khessa can't know that yet, so this is what she's optimistically thinking. ]]
Khessa's hands go right through Rath's illusory double. The illusion remains as he casts Fly and leaps off the landing platform (becoming visible again (he used Mislead the previous round)) and makes his heroic escape.
Wall of Fire is gone btw (forgot about the concentration), look like the Gargoyle is back on his stand pretending to be a statue again.
[[ OOC: May we know how far away Rath is? He could be within range of ranged attacks - or possibly even Dispel Magic (which Eric knows and has prepared) ]]
About 250 ft. He dropped about 75m before flying. If you want an exact number I'd have to ask my buddy Pythagoras.
[[ OOC: Lol! No need to bother your buddy - if Rath's anywhere near that distance away, he's out of range of most spells. Let's face it, today Rath is running away with his tail between his legs from the 'prodigy' who would have been incredibly easy to execute by fire. So be it. But another day, perhaps, he won't be so lucky. ]]
Khessa isn't interested in exterminating the Gargoyle - who, while he tried to kill her, barely managed to scratch her armor. As far as she's concerned, the fight is over. She approaches Calvin's corpse, trying to determine whether the prolonged exposure to the magical fire has left the poor hero in a condition to be resurrected or not.
If Calvin's body is too consumed by the flames to be resurrected, the blonde arcane warrior carries Azbara Jos's corpse nearby and improvises a shroud for Calvin from the wizard's robes. Considering that this position should be outside the Silence's area of effect, she explains: "After we take care of Rezmir, we'll return for him. When we leave the castle, we'll take him with us and give him a proper burial".
The tall adventuress also proceeds to ritual-cast Detect Magic to locate any magical items of Azbara or Calvin and also checks for any useful non-magical items or coins that the two have. They no longer need such things... but they can be useful in saving the world from Tiamat. She also searches the room itself (both by detecting magic items and by looking for valuable or useful or interesting items). Azbara's spellbook, for example, should be somewhere...
The Gargoyle doesn't seem interested in you either. It's doing its statue job.
You're not sure about Calvin. The fire burned away quite a lot from the body. [[OOC: you can certainly try]]
Most items in the room a burned, at least most paper is. You do find a book written in a language you can't read. The other scraps of paper you find are mostly part of several letters to Rath Modar from Severin, the supreme leader of the Cult of the Dragon. You find enough to piece together the depths of the connections between the Red Wizards (at least those friendly to Rath Modar) and the Cult. Both Rath and Severin have an aversion to undead and feel like they need each other. Severin thinks Rath and his followers can summon Tiamat. Rath thinks that the Dragons will help him unseating Szass Tam. There are also some scraps of letters from Thay revealing that clearly some Red Wizards are not nearly as keen on the Cult’s plans.
In addition you find: 2 Potions of Healling and a Potion of Water Breathing.
Azbara Jos has a spell scroll of Mage Armor.
Calvin has 29 gold, 241 silver and 5 copper. On his body you find a Scimitar, Shield and Hide armor. Further items include: Ink (1 ounce bottle), a sheet of Parchment, his Totem, a Bedroll, a Meskit, 1 day worth of rations, a rope (50ft), a tinderbox, 10 torches and a waterskin.
Khessa takes the found fragments of documents with her and explains their contents to her friends. She still wonders where Azbara Jos's spellbook is stored - if he had seen it burning, he should have reacted, at least gotten quite angry, but she temporarily puts the problem aside.
Regarding the loot, the blonde arcane warrior suggests giving a Potion of Healing to herself and Zale (so that each has an emergency healing tool - even just to revive Eric, in case of some bad unexpected accident) and the Potion of Water Breathing to Eric. She takes custody of the scroll of Mage Armor, but makes it clear that she intends to sell it at the first opportunity and divide the proceeds between everyone (for her that spell is completely useless, since she can use better armor than the one provided by the spell). She also keeps the unknown book, waiting to discover its content later.
[[ OOC: Regarding Calvin's loot, Khessa, unable to independently determine whether he can be resurrected or not, awaits Eric's response - if Calvin can be resurrected, obviously his possessions remain with him... ]]
The tall adventuress hugs Eric and kisses him passionately, then tells him: "Thanks to you, I practically came out of this without a scratch... You are an incredibly effective shield, my love. For our poor heroic friend Calvin..." she turns her blue eyes to the half-burned corpse "...do you think you can do something?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OCC: according toRevivify spell Calvin can be resurrected. Eric has only one diamond (which unfortunately worth a way more than the cost required for the spell) so we won't have another chance... In any case the spell does not restore any missing body parts so if the body is too compromised the spell won't be effective, I would left up to DM to decide this.
If appropriate, an eventual medicine check would be 10
The air is heavy with smoke and the smell of burnt flesh. Eric kneels next to the charred body of his fallen comrade. Taking a deep breath, he places his hands on the body, his fingers feeling the rough, burned skin. The damage is too great, the spell will not be able to undo the destruction. Tears fill his eyes as Eric faces reality. Just like when Telurion died, the Dwarven Cleric is powerless. The silence of the area weighs heavily on Eric.
Khessa approaches, silently, and embraces Eric, wiping away his tears with a kiss.
"He has not fallen in vain," she murmurs to her beloved dwarf. "What he gave, he gave to stop Tiamat. And she will be stopped" her voice is hard as steel as she promises. "And Calvin will be avenged. Rath escaped today like the rat he is - but now that we know better what he can do, he will not be so lucky when we meet again. Let us go and finish our work. A Wyrmspeaker awaits us. It would be rude to keep him waiting".
"You are indeed right dear, as always, Our fallen friends will rest peacefully once our job is done" Eric closes Calvin's eyes with a gesture of his hand and murmurs a dwarfish pray as last farewell, then he stands up and turns back to Khessa and Zale "let's do this then"
Khessa, before heading to where she already knows she will find Rezmir, suggests: "This time I hope we can exploit the element of surprise. Rezmir does not know that we are coming to take her. She feels safe, in the heart of her fortress, anticipating the triumph of the great treasure that she is transporting for the evil purposes of her multiheaded dragon queen".
"Let's cast here the spells that we eventually want to use before starting the fight" the blonde arcane warrior continues. "I, for example, will make my silhouette blurry so that the enemies have a hard time hitting me. Then we go to the door, rush in and attack right away. They are not expecting us. We should surprise them".
And, if no one objects, that is exactly what the tall adventuress does... She casts Blur on herself, then leads everyone to the door and just rushes in.
Eric nods "I've already done" he says showing to the blonde warrior their rings "the protective spell over you lasts for one hour, so I think we have enough time for when we face Rexmir "
Zale breathes heavily as she stares down at the mages body, though her breathing is more the result of anger than exhaustion. She remains silent as Khessa and Eric look over Calvin's corpse. Part of her wishing she'd been quicker with her crossbow, maybe she could have shot the fleeing bastard. She dips her head in respect for Calvin. Despite traveling with him for so long, she feels like she barely knew him. She should have tried harder.
She grips her bloody rapier, "Aye, let's finish this."She looks up at Khessa and Eric
Khessa smiles at the mention of the protective spell and gently runs her fingers over the small bas-reliefs that surround the neck opening and shoulders of the armor... those decorations that consist of flaming letters forming the name 'Khessa' and dwarven runes that read 'shielded by steel and love'.
"Yes," the blonde arcane warrior smiles at her beloved dwarf "I still feel the reassuring presence of your protection upon me. You really have been true to the words you wrote for me".
Hearing everyone's determination, the tall adventuress casts her spell then, goes to Rezmir's door and bursts inside to attack.

Round 3
Khessa's Athletics check to Grapple Rath: 9
The check is contested by the Rath's Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (he chooses wich to use).

Eric, what do you do?
