Overview In this adventure, there is no DM. Players will create one, two, or three characters and form a 1st level party. Sourcebooks are restricted to PHB 2024 and DMG 2024 only. Each player will then solo play through the adventure and post their results in this game thread. If we get a good response, I'll consider posting all five Example Adventures from the new DMG. Good luck and PM me if you have any questions or suggestions on how to make things more fun.
Psudo-DM The role of the Pseudo-DM starts with managing the three top posts of this thread. Post #1 lists the campaign and character creation rules. Post #2 is the adventure outline with each encounter. Post #3 documents lore, locations, NPCs, Item Shops.
Running each Encounter As a DMless campaign, you will be the DM and the players. Start each encounter by choosing the type of approach that benefits the characters, then roll initiative, then start rolling for each character and each monster's actions. You can roll in the adventure log or us the forum dice roller. Once the encounter is over, you can search the area to find a "coin stash" equal to 25 copper pieces per XP earned. Tracking XP and gp this way will give you the opportunity to buy magic items at the shops.
Choose your Approach Default Approach: Choose a distance of 30, 35, 40, 50, or 60 feet from your target(s) and roll initiative. Stealth Approach: Roll Stealth to set a DC. Each monster rolls Perception against your DC. Then, roll initiative (surprised means disadvantage) Distance Approach: Roll Perception against the monsters’ Stealth DC (10+Stealth). Choose a range as far as 120 feet. Then, roll initiative. Creative Approach: Come up with something different, and we’ll figure it out!
Roll Initiative Roll initiative for your characters and any monsters.
Be the DM and the Characters A DMless campaign means that you are in charge of both your characters and the monsters. This means that you get to choose the monster's motivations and strategies. We encourage fairness and to respect the dice rolls. Some players will roll in the campaign logs and then post to the thread and others will use the forum dice roller. Feel free to choose, remember you are the DM.
Party Size Choose your party size of one character, two characters, or three characters. I'm open to the idea of four characters but these adventures aren't that hard and it's actually more fun to push the limits of play by reducing the party size, you also get more XP and GP with fewer characters.
PHB 2024 and DMG 2024 You can consider this as a "playtest" campaign. It's a place where players can test out their builds and experiment and learn the new rules.

Introduction You might hail from a quiet village like Erybend or the bustling mining town of Diamond Lake, or perhaps you make your home in the grand Free City of Greyhawk. Wherever you come from, a young elf woman appears, her face etched with worry and urgency. She approaches you and your companions, pleading for your help. “I beg you,” she says, her voice trembling, “My name is Lyrelle, please follow me upstream. The water is poisoned, and the corruption is spreading. My patron, Borogrove, watches over this forest. He will tell you more.” With a grace that hints at both strength and wisdom, she gestures for you to follow her into the woods, upstream, where a greater mystery awaits.
Meeting the Treant The forest grows denser as you follow the elf deeper into the woods. Sunlight filters through the branches above, dappling the ground in patterns of gold and green. The air is thick with the earthy scent of moss and pine, though a faint, sour tang lingers beneath it—a reminder of the foulness that has taken hold of the stream.
Ahead, you see a huge figure blending into the trees themselves. As you approach, you realize it is no ordinary tree, but a Treant, ancient and wise. His bark-covered face slowly animates, eyes like pools of deep amber opening to study you with a kindness and strength that feels as old as the forest itself.
"Welcome, travelers," Borogrove’s voice rumbles, low and resonant, like distant thunder. "I am Borogrove, guardian of these woods. Long have I watched over these lands, but now a dark sickness has taken root, poisoning my beloved forest and fouling the waters that flow through your village."
The Treant lifts a massive, branch-like arm and gently drops a small, glistening acorn into the elf's hands, who then offers it to you. "This acorn holds healing and restoration magic,” he says. "You may need it on your journey. Find the source of the corruption, and bring balance back to these woods."
Borogrove leans forward, his eyes filled with a mixture of hope and sorrow. "I fear what lies ahead, but the forest has faith in you, as do I. Go now, and tread carefully."
Twig Blights (Encounter 1) As you approach the mouth of a cave, the trees and undergrowth grow thicker and more twisted, their bark marred with patches of fungus and unnatural growth. The once-vibrant forest floor is littered with dead leaves and broken branches, giving the area an eerie stillness. Suddenly, you notice the branches themselves seem to move, shifting subtly as if alive. You blink, but now their twisted forms stand upright, forming rough, humanoid shapes with gnarled limbs and hollow eyes that gleam faintly with an unnatural light. Without warning, they begin to advance, their movements slow but filled with a dreadful purpose.
All together or in up to three waves, Twig Blights attack the party. Set Each Wave to arrive after the first Wave is defeated Wave 1, 2x Twig Blights CR 1/8 (25 XP each) Wave 2, 2x Twig Blights CR 1/8 (25 XP each) Wave 3, 2x Twig Blights CR 1/8 (25 XP each) Twig Blights Rewards (150 XP, coin stash 37 gp 5 sp)
Bullywug Warriors (Encounter 2) Up ahead is a cave opening. The air grows damp and thick as you step into the cave, your footsteps echoing softly off the rough stone walls. The faint sound of water trickling fills the stillness, mingling with an unsettling smell of rot and mildew. The stream you’ve been following is fed by a trickle coming from the cavern, its once-clear water now murky and covered with patches of sickly green and black slime. Around you, strange fungi cling to the walls, casting an eerie glow in shades of blue and green. The air is filled with tiny spores, swirling like dust motes in your torchlight. The whole cave feels wrong, as though the very earth itself has been twisted by some dark, unnatural force. All of a sudden a large mushroom begins to emit an ear piercing shriek.

Berserk Bear (Encounter 3) The tunnel opens into a small, dimly lit chamber where the damp air is even heavier with the stench of rot. A large brown bear paces erratically near a shallow pool fed by the corrupted stream, its massive paws leaving muddy prints across the stone floor. The bear’s fur is matted and tangled with patches of mold, and its eyes are wild, bloodshot, and pained. It stops suddenly, turning toward you with a guttural growl. Drool tinged with a sickly green hue drips from its mouth, and it sways unsteadily as though the poisoned water has left it both enraged and confused.
Skill Check Medicine, Nature, or Survival DC 15 You know that the bear suffers from the poisoned condition. 1x Brown Bear CR 1 (200 XP each) Brown Bear Rewards (200 XP, coin stash 50 gp)
Ooze’s Lair (Encounter 4) As you enter the cavern at the north end of the stream, the air feels heavy, thick with a foul stench that seems to cling to your skin. In the center of the room is a strange looking rock in front of a giant brain fungus that pulses and twitches, oozing fluid into a shallow pool that flows into the stream to the south. Stirges nesting in the ceiling suddenly see you and attack.

The Fouled Stream Adventure for Level 1 Characters
Situation. An alien fungus in a cave is polluting the stream that flows past the village of High Ery. The fungus has spawned vile creatures in and around the cave.
Hook. The folk of High Ery are noticing fungal growths on the riverbanks and a layer of scum on the water. The characters might live in the village, or a contact in the Free City of Greyhawk might ask them to investigate.
Encounters
The adventure consists of these encounters.
The First Fork. A mile upstream from the village, a stream flows into the river from a little wood on the river’s south side. Characters can tell that this stream is the source of the pollution.
Journey Upstream. Borogrove, a kindly Treant, keeps watch over the wood and meets the characters as they follow the polluted stream. He knows the source of the corruption is inside a cave that the stream spills out of. He gives the characters a magic acorn. If swallowed, the acorn conveys the benefits of a Potion of Healing and the Lesser Restoration spell.
Twig Blights. Just outside the cave, the characters encounter six Twig Blights.
Corrupted Cave. Use the Underdark Warrens map in Appendix B for the corrupted cave. Ignore the secret door and the inner chambers behind it. Close off the tunnels leading off the map to the south, east, and north. The characters enter the cave in the southeast, following the stream. The cave’s main features and inhabitants are as follows:
Entrance. A Shrieker Fungus just inside the cave entrance alerts the inhabitants to the characters’ arrival. On watch near the entrance and quick to respond to the shriekers’ cry are four Bullywug Warriors who have fungal growths on them.
Berserk Bear. In a side cave to the southeast is a Brown Bear that drank from the stream. It’s upset because the water made it ill. If the characters can make it eat Borogrove’s acorn or otherwise rid it the Poisoned condition, the bear recovers immediately and leaves them alone.
Ooze’s Lair. At the north end of the stream are a Psychic Gray Ooze and six Stirges. After defeating these creatures, the characters can destroy the brain-like fungus in the water, which is the source of the corruption. If they do, each character earns a bonus 100 XP.
Journey Home. As they leave the wood, the characters encounter Borogrove again. If they used his acorn, he gives them another one. If they purified the source of the stream, he gives them a Staff of Flowers in gratitude.

When Gwen the Druid visited the Free City of Greyhawk to see her distant cousin, an elf named Poe, the two witnessed an injustice unfold in the bustling market. A towering half-giant named Gitra stood accused of theft, with a small mob gathering around him, ready to pass judgment. Before the situation could escalate, Poe stepped forward, raising her voice over the crowd. "You’ve got the wrong man,” she declared. “I saw the whole thing. He’s being unfairly blamed by the local thieves’ guild.” Poe pointed to a small group of rogues and children watching from a distance. Realizing they’d been caught, the band quickly scattered and ran from the scene. When Gwen and Poe attempted to slip away from the commotion, Gitra hurried after them, gratitude evident in his voice. “We make a great team. Let’s stick together.” The two elf women exchanged resigned sighs. Gwen shook her head with a wry smile and muttered to Poe, "Guard your heart next time. No good deed goes unpunished."
The group is approached by a young elf named Lyrelle, who plead for help. Gwen says, "I have met this Borogrove. He is a well respected member of the Druid Circle. I accept this quest." Close off the tunnels leading off the map to the south, east, and north.

I accept this quest." Poe says, "Restoring balance and purity to the source of the river is of utmost importance to me." Gitra says, "Nice, let's go talk to a tree!"
After meeting Borogrove, he gives Gitra the acorn, "You want me to eat this?"
