As the song ends and the ethereal music fades, the patrons begin to speak among themselves once more. More of the taverns regulars begin to come into the tavern, a few disgruntled at the amount of refugees there already.
"Tch, bet my last copper that these 'refugees' are just scouts from Elturiel, just waiting to signal their army to attack."
"Aye, bet those bastards took out Ravengard and are just waiting for the Fists to fight each other for the commander's spot."
The regulars and refugees slowly split apart, separating themselves as they gossip among each other. Both of them blame each other for their misfortune and tensions begin to grow. But the uneasy pressure is relieved as eight motley humans saunter into the tavern. The leader is a brawny man with a cloudy right eye, a cruel sneer, and a pirate’s swagger. The others are an unsavory, rowdy bunch who act as if they own the place.
“We’re looking for an old friend of ours,” says the dead-eyed man. He sniffs the air. “Goes by the name ‘Tarina,’ or so I’m told. Loves to cheat at Baldur’s Bones.”
"And I'm a generous man, a tall mug of ale to point her out for me and enough for a whole week if it is the Tarina I'm looking for." a few patrons already begin to point upwards as the man and his crew begin to move for the stairs. Two of his men stay behind and linger near the entrance.
Sarris looks across the room at Zim and gives a little nod. He will continue the circuit of the room as if nothing has changed; all the while keeping an eye on the two that have posted at the staircase. As slowly as possible, Sarris will make certain the peace tie is removed from his longsword's handle.
As the group of motley humans find their way upstairs, the young red-haired lady, gives the stoic goliath beside her a discreet nudge. "Let them make the first move, if they threaten Tarina I suppose the badges could give us the right to step in and uphold law and order, even if it would mean the unfortunate deaths of some obvious pirates."She says quietly, giving her handbag a small pat to make sure her tiny invisible servant was ready too.

Once Zim gets the signal from Sarris, he swiftly moves to position himself at the top of the stairs. Planting his feet firmly, he raises his shield 🛡️⚒️ and takes the dodge action. His voice booms through the air, laced with scorn and unfiltered dwarven moxy.
“Well, look what we have here! A pair of motherless, fatherless, bottom-feeding, scum-sucking, spineless, no-good, yellow-bellied cowards! I could smell ye a mile away, you chum-reeking, gutter-born wretches! I’ve scraped more respectable filth off my boots! Come on, then! Let’s see if you’ve got the guts to fight, or if you’ll scurry back to whatever hole you crawled out of!”
Gorin stays on his seat for now, ready to engage the two left behind when he hears noise coming from above.
"You ready Durak?" he whispers.

"You know Arkon, forget what I said, just be ready to help the dwarf."The redhead says quietly to the goliath as she realizes Zim is making the first move. From the looks of things this were the crew Tarina mentioned, but it would be unfortunate if it wasn't. Trapping that crew in the stairs was a good tactical move though, she had to give that to the dwarf.
Sarris will hurry to gain the steps to the second floor after seeing Zim charge into the stairway.
Sizing up the stairwell, he notes it makes swinging his longsword an issue - and shooting up the staircase with his bow might put his comrades in peril. With a deep intake and release of breath, Sarris speaks a word of power and motions with his hands and sends a mote of light up the stairs to strike one of the brutes above on the stairs.

... and once the wisp strikes, the brute emits Dim Light in a 10-foot radius and can’t benefit from the Invisible condition. It does help light up the staircase for the moment!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As the mote strikes one of the pirates upon the stairs, the dead eyed man gives a snarl, "To arms, lads! Show these landlubbers why your the feared crew of mine! And I'll carve into this dwarf my name, Lekard 'Dead-eye' Cadavrus!" The pirates draw their scimitars and engage the party.

While Sarris managed to bring his blade up in time, he was not ready for the weight of the strike. The bandit's scimitar cuts into Sarris' shoulder, leaving a gash.
(Durak is able to do an opportunity attack, if he wishes. Presently, the pirates are only hostile to Sarris and Zim.)
Sarris had not expect the brute(6) to charge forward so quickly. Luckily he was able to draw his longsword and reduce the potential damage to his shoulder.
Jaw clamped tight so he does not yelp at the shoulder slice, Sarris steps slightly to the side to avoid the saber's cutting arc while bringing the longsword's point to bear on the brute's most vunerable spot - his face. Making the brute flinch gives Sarris an easy opportunity to withdraw slice the brute's neck.

"Death by a thousand cuts, is it?" Sarris growled at his opponent.
Shifting slightly as the brute's blade sliced into his flesh, Sarris counter-thrust the curved sabre strike, by stepping slightly to the side to avoid the cutting arc of the sabre while simultaneously bringing the longsword's point to bear on a vulnerable area of the opponent, like the torso or face, for a decisive thrust.

Valeria's tiny invisible servant snickers quietly and stays hidden in her handbag, watching for anyone making improper advances towards his mistress.
(If allowed, Mal would ready an action turning invisible as soon as he turns visible, otherwise he will simply stay put for now :-)
