Name: Cubby "Hoofkraken" Ramble Race/Subrace: Minotaur Class/Subclass: Paladin to Ilmater / Oath of Devotion Physical appearance: Brown long fur, golden nosering, wide white horns. Like a highland cow Personality, character, ideals: Serious, talkative, reasonable and capable, but subject to flashes of anger. Follows the ideals of Ilmater. Kindess, charity, empathy.
Backstory
Cubby came of age as a pen-fighter for his tribe, always in the name of Mogi, the cruel god associated with the Minotaur race that encourages violence and evil acts. Cubby was a fearsome and merciless fighter in the pen, an arrogant showman and gladiator, and much beloved by his tribe, which made its home on the riverbanks of the Dessarin Valley.
But one season, several years ago, a flood devastated the countryside his tribe lived upon. Cubby was separated from them and floated miles downstream, all the way to Waterdeep. He feared his family all lost and he himself was sorely wounded.
He was taken in and nursed back to health by a cleric of Ilmater. During his convalescence, Cubby learned that Ilmater was the incarnation of compassion, and the eternal foe of suffering. Cubby was inspired by the generous, good-spirited, and even-tempered deity and, moreover, moved by the kind and gentle nature of the believer who saved him. Cubby experienced a religious epiphany and the evil minotaur turned a page in his life, pledging his soul to Ilmater and to charity.
When Cubby met a tiefling paladin looking for a boy who, for reasons yet to be discovered, had (spontaneously) abandoned his family and home and disappeared into the ruins of Rossalantar, Cubby was quick to pledge his sword to help.
Arrival in Rossalantar.
A hamlet of five walled farms. No, six. Centered around a pond. Fresh water... good. But the farms neighbor a desolate marsh, haunted by monsters? Why must humans choose places like this to live? Is it pure stupidity, or a desire to own all of creation. Or both. Or, Cubby thinks, shaking his head with forgiveness, do they simply seek to find a place they can call their own. A place that need not be perfect.
Cubby sighs, audibly, his breath puffing visibly in the falling darkness as a chill creeps over the village from the marsh. Moisture beads on his lightly oiled fur. He huffs, once, drawing the attention of a palfrey tied in front of the single inn this tiny hamlet offers. Sleeping Dragon, eh? Sleep, I could use. And perhaps the barkeep knows something about those ruins.
Carefully ensuring his weapons are stowed, Cubby walks, unhurried, to the inn’s front door. He’s learned it’s best to allow humans a moment to adjust to him. But too, a feeling gnawed at him. A feeling that once he entered, his fate would be aligned with the fate of Rassalantar, for the foreseeable future.
May Ilmater shine upon us all. He pushes the door open, and, in the twilit hamlet’s little square, warm light filters out around the wedge-like silhouette of his broad back. Then he steps inside and with a final glance behind him, closes the door. It is not long before the thickening darkness, in turn, weaves itself shut, cloaking Rassalantar in another night of mystery...
...Recently Wood was visited by the Wormwoods who lived back toward the big city. Their boy had gone missing and what info they could gather he was last seen heading to the old keep runes. Marlow Wormwood remembered the Baker's Half Dozen from back in the day and has come to ask me if I'd have a look for him. Wood agreed of course. The next day he pull the dust cover sea chest out of the attic and opened it for the first time in almost twenty years. Pulled his gear out, made adjustments as needed and headed to the tavern for a drink before heading out.
Thank you for your consideration. I'd be more than glad to make any changes you'd like.
Great improvisation on the missing boy. I had intentionally not given too much information, because I wanted to have it provided by the paladin I had mentioned, but in fact since Woodrow has been living in Rassalantar for a while, it is plausible that he himself is aware of the story.
Let's say then that he knows that the missing boy is the son of Kara Sashar, the attractive and fascinating wheelwright, not by chance nicknamed ‘Tarsakh Flower’. She is now distraught with grief and worry, because her son Mival Loznhosk, whom she lovingly raised alone, with great affection and dedication, after the child's father had abandoned her even before the little one was born and who has recently come of age, has inexplicably abandoned the house, one night, to head towards the ruins...
That doesn't change much - especially it doesn't change the fact that Woodrow may have been asked to intervene!
As for Woodrow's equipment, however, I see that you included some magic items (such as the moon-touched weapon and the shoeld of crows). These should not be there, because, while not particularly powerful, they are not part of the Starting Gear and are not easily "purchasable".
Apart from these two details, everything seems fine to me.
(Will there be a campaign channel for this? Ive posted and wrote for my character already but it would be good to have one to keep all the characters in.
Yes, this thread is for recruitment only. To actually play the campaign there will be an In-Chatacter thread where the characters' actions take place and an Out-of-character channel for communications that are not part of the adventure narrative.
Is this still recruiting? I'll get a character made just in case.
Ability scores: 121112121016
I was actually thinking of closing the recruitment, already having a good number of characters to choose from, but since you have already rolled the stats, let's say you can finish creating your character and submit your application.
OK, thanks to everyone for your applications! Now I close the registrations and see what group to form.
As already written before, Kirby121 can finish his application; but from now on no new applications. I will contact the selected players/characters within a few days. Those who are not chosen, do not be too upset... often it is not so much a question of quality (or liking) of the character itself, but also of who seems to be the best completion to the group.
Anyway, thanks all again! And may you all continue to have fun with this game, whether in this campaign or another!
... Again, if you aren't okay with this (which I totally understand), then I'm totally willing to rework Tilvus to make him a good character.
I've thought about it a bit, but I think an evil character is too much of a risk of causing trouble - despite the player's best intentions. There could be a number of situations where their evilness could be discovered (either by their own actions, or even just by magical investigations) and if the rest of the party is instead oriented towards good, this could cause difficulties and complicate the collaboration between the characters.
So yes, I regret not having specified this before (I only didn't do so because I hadn't thought of the eventuality) but I would prefer that we avoid evil characters.
Alright; thanks so much for the response and consideration!

I can't get the homebrew subclass I wanted to play to turn up in the character builder, so i'll just not apply since that was critical to my character idea.

Good luck to everyone here!
OK, good luck to you also for the other campaigns!
No, I'm sorry, the selection is already closed. Those who have not been contacted by now, simply have not been chosen for this particular initiative. After all, this time I only needed a few players, because the playtesters of my previous module had precedence.
In any case, I wish all those who I could not choose to soon find other campaigns in which to play and dream! The opening of recruitment threads is not an exceptionally rare thing; insist on applying and sooner or later you should all have the opportunity to play!

Sorry about this, your previous messages didn't load.
Character on the way.
