Backstory: (I am willing to change the names of Gods and Fiends to better fit your scenario if needed)
Igneous was born to a priestess of Kossuth, God of fire. The priestess, a human named Karina, had devoted her soul and body to her god, therefore abstaining from any bodily joys. Despite this, one day she noticed that she was starting to develop a belly. One day when she was praying to her God, Karina believed she had a vision where Kossuth appeared to her as a Genie. The Genie claimed that he had given her a son who was to spread the word of fire throughout all planes.
Karina did not speak of this to anyone until Igneous had grown to a teen of 15 years. At this point his Genasi features started to show more clearly. One day while Igneous was studying the teachings of Kossuth, Karina told him to join her in his study. She then sat him down and told him to hold his hands out and concentrate. As Igneous did so, a flame came out of his hand. Igneouswas so frightened by this that he shook his hand and set a fire to a bookshelf in Karina's study. After putting out the fire, Karina calmed down Igneous and told him how he was the son of Kossuth and how he was to bring the word of fire throughout the lands.
Igneous continued his studies until his 19th year when he was praying to his so called father. "Please grant me a sign that I should start my journey to spread your word," he spoke, ending his prayer as he did every night. For the first time something happened when the prayer was over. A Demon, Balor, appeared to Igneous and said, "I am Kossuth, your father. Are you ready to begin my mission?" Igneous nodded and bowed down to who he thought was his father. "All you have to do is devote yourself to me and I will give you greater power than you have ever known." Igneous nodded, "I devote my self to you. Give me your power and I will do whatever you ask." Balor smiled, knowing that he had tricked this man into giving up his soul.
Backstory: As a child Markus lived in the slums of Blackwater City and had to grow up faster than any child should ever have to. His father left before he could remember and he spent most of his childhood caring for his terminally ill mother. On one of their many visits to the clerics at the temple of Heironeous, Markus met a Paladin named Argus Veil, a man who he instantly bonded with and began look up to as his role model. Argus helped the boy as much as his duties would allow and when his mother finally passed at the age of fourteen Argus took him on as his squire.
Over the next five years Markus trained hard, following Argus’ examples and learning his virtues, but before he could complete his training Argus was brutally murdered. Argus had been working with several members of the city’s council and Markus still believes that one of them ordered his assassination. After two years of searching, he finally tracked down Argus’ killer, a man named Lucius, and offered him up to the temple who ordained that the man should be tried in a fair and just manner. After a drawn out and lengthy trial Lucius was cut loose, much to Markus’ dismay. He still wanted justice for Argus and began to feel that the laws abided by the Paladins just got in the way of doing the right thing.
One night, Markus followed Lucius back to his home and took him by surprise. He tied him to a chair and began to interrogate him, but before he could get the name of the person who had hired him, a fellow Paladin who had been suspicious of his actions burst in stopped him before he took it too far. Lucius escaped and Markus, although leaving on good terms, was expunged from the service of the temple.
Ever since leaving his home he has wandered from town to town performing odd jobs for people as a mercenary. Although he is just a warrior he still considers himself a Paladin, and serves to deliver his own brand of justice to evil doers and ne'er-do-wells. Perhaps one day he will find the true perpetrator of his Mentor’s murder.
Kail grew up without a father. His mother was a Paladin of Torm and he was raised in a household with lawful good tendencies. Kail went his own path when he decided to join a nearby monastery who helped him discover his inner self. Opening his mind introduced the communication of the quori spirit of Maya (Meaning "Might") and this is when the night visions began. Often, Kail would have reoccuring visions which left him restless- The most common one showed him fighting an unseen force in a fiery hell. Two additional arms sprout from his back and runes glow all over his body with divine light. The teachers at the monastery worked with scholars from the Paladin order, along with Kail's mother to uncover Kail's true Kalashtar heritage. The quori chose Kail's mother as the vessel for his birth. Guided by the faith of his quori spirit, Kail now adventures out with the teachings of his monastery and the Torm order to spread good over the world, determined to be the light and strength for those in need. A calmer of nerves. A beacon for the lost. A hero.
Background: Jokan Clanleaver Umani is a Goliath from the faraway Ironpeak Mountains. Her people have long lived in the mountains there and enjoyed the freedom to roam that their society so values, however conflict in the land of Arnthall has eroded this from her people in recent years. New so called kings have conquered the lands and imposed their tyranical rule upon this nation, and in the process they have laid claim to the Ironpeak Mountains also. Suddenly the Goliath's of the Umani tribes found themselves presented with an ultimatum, bow their knee to the conquering kings or be driven from their home or worse. To Jokan's surprise the chieftans of the Umani tribes accepted the rule of the new kings almost without question, only one of the seven chieftans objected, Jokan's Uncle. Through the rites of his people he challenged those opposed to him, but after slaying two of his rival's he was eventually laid low. And so the voice of dissent was quieted. The Umani people were free no more.
Jokan could not comprehend how this could have come to be, and in the weeks that followed these events she spent much time alone in the peaks deep in thought and meditation, angry at the betrayal of her chieftans. She considered many path's, should she stand against the chieftans herself? Should she accept their wisdom, as difficult as it was? Should she leave her home and abandon all that she had known? It was during one of these times of contemplation and meditation that a voice spoke to her, high atop the snowy peaks. It spoke in a strong voice, powerful with conviction beyond Jokan's comprehension. It's word's boomed around her "Justice has not been done here, child of the Umani. Your people have been betrayed by those whom you look to for wisdom. I see the courage in your heart. I see the strength in your spirit. I see the weight of loyalty to your people on your shoulders. You must leave your people this day. Take up your sword and venture to lands far away. Seek out injustice and test your conviction against tyranny. Speak my name wherever you stand for justice and I shall be with you. Show me the potential I see within you, then one day we shall return here together. On that day your people shall be free once more. For I am Torm, the Hand of Righteousness."
As the words faded to nothing Jokan was already rising, her decision was made. She would not sit and do nothing, and now she had a path. She would leave and prove herself against the evils of the world, and when she was ready she would return to her people and restore their freedom. Upon returning to her tribe as she emerged with her collection of belongings, her greatsword across her back, she was greeted by her people, the remaining four chieftans of her tribes at the head. The man who had slain her Uncle spoke: "We know you will stand against us Jokan Fireheart, child of Umani, and in this you are a fool. This has come to pass and we do this to protect all Umani. Do not take up your sword against your kin Jokan, join us in harmony. If you will not...you will die this day." As they tensed and expected action they were surprised to be met by laughter. As she chuckled at their actions Jokan spoke: "Fear not kin-betrayers, I will not stand against you this day. Today I leave and seek justice elsewhere in the world. But do not think that what you have done will be forgotten. One day I will return, and when I do justice will be done." With that she strode past them and departed her people, not looking back for a second and utterly sure of the path she was taking. As she began to disappear down from the mountains she heard a final shout below out from behind her: "It is you who have betrayed your people. Do not return here, for it will only mean your death...Jokan Clanleaver Umani!"
