I'm currently running this campaign with my group IRL and we are enjoying it, enough so that I want to get a PBP going and see how differently things can unfold. This is a level 1-12ish campaign in a very cold setting. Be warned, the campaign can get dark, both literally and figuratively. We will have a quick session zero and assess comfort levels (personally I'm not eager to push the limits of palatability), as well as attempt to mold the party together and explain why they are in Icewind Dale. We will use milestone leveling. I'm looking for four or five players who can hopefully post at least once a day. You may roll stats (reroll 1's once) or choose standard array or point buy. UA allowed. Please include in your application your character's name, race, class, intended subclass (purely to satisfy my own curiosity), background, BRIEF backstory that could be molded into something that fits coming to Icewind Dale, rolled stats (or standard array / point buy), and previous D&D experience, if any. Don't be shy, new players and experienced ones each have their advantages in a campaign!
Backstory: Auraani grew up in the noble high elf society, but she always dreamed of more. She was an archery prodigy from a young age and loved to put on shows of skill for her family and anyone else who would watch. During one of her shows however, her arrow passed clean through one of her targets, the wooden wall behind it and into a tree 50 feet away and then abruptly exploded. One of the elders that saw the spectacle came to talk to her that night, telling her about arcane archers of old that could do miraculous things with a longbow. From that moment on, Auraani knew she would go out into the world and seek out more knowledge of these mystical warriors on her path to becoming one.
Experience with DND: I've been playing DND since AD&D 2E, so about 30 years, and I've been mostly a forever DM in that time as well.
Backstory: Nazcan, as a child, was a dwarf of a dragonborn, criticized for his size his whole childhood. He always dreamed of being giant, so he decided to turn to Bahamut for help, becoming a priest under him, giving prayers every day to be big. After two long years of preying, he grew to large size in his sleep, towering above the common races, towering above the others. However, it still wasn't enough, he one day wants to become a true dragon, hoping one day he will achieve this. He came to Icewind Dale on a quest to achieve his goals.
Experience: About two years, yet I haven't been able to play many PCs...
Backstory: I swear I will get back at my brothers for banishing me to this place, Ssej thinks as once more he is on a fishing vessel out on Lac Dinneshere hauling in the catch of today. Not my fault they can't take a joke and wished me gone from Neverwinter, influencing the headmaster in his decision on where to send me on my pilgrimage. Why he thought sending my scaly ass to the winter snow was a good idea I have no idea, but such is my lot in life. I make do as best I can and eventally return with as much snow as I can magically travel with and can not wait to start a snow fight with my fellow brothers. The beat down they will get fuels my inner fire helping with the coldness of this place.
DnD Experience: Started with the Red Box and have played every iteration since then, except maybe 4 (shudder). Have about 5 PbP and 2 Discord campaigns currently going on and pretty much live on my computer so am able to post. Every now and then I might miss a day due to work being annoying and getting in the way of my fun.
Subclass: Would either go with Pact of the Chain or Pact of the Blade, still unsure on that one.
Background: Folk Hero
Backstory:
"Be careful of what you wish for" Such an overused, very well known phrase. But to Taali, that phrase cuts deeper than you'd ever know.
Taali used to be a cleric, a very devoted one at that, to a god she's now keeping secret to herself. But a selfish wish spoken at the wrong time and in the wrong company changed her fate forever, and she unwittingly made a Warlock pact with someone (or something) who's true identity is unknown to her. It was impossible to hide what she had done, and she was exiled from the religious community she had been a part of her entire life.
But while Taali is no longer a cleric, she still has the heart of one. While her newfound powers are a mystery even to her, she tried her best to do good with them, and soon there were rumors going around about a mysterious wild elf with no tribe who traveled from place to place doing good deeds with not-so-good spells.
But there's more to her journey than just being a good samaritan: She wants to discover the identity of the being that gave her this curse masqueraded as a blessing, the being who's voice still reachs to her when she least expects it. But, if she finds it... What will she even do? Does she really wants to return to normal and go back to what she was, or is this a new and better path she should just choose to embrace instead?
Class: Paladin (with one level dip into fighter if that's allowed, to get Two Weapon fighting style)
Intended subclass: Oath of Ancients (if you've got it, I've only got access to the free D&DBeyond stuff on my sheet)
Background: Haunted One
BRIEF backstory: Hatch had an unusual childhood - he was raised by a dracolich until adulthood. Why and how that came to be is the mystery of his life. But understandably the horror of it haunts him, leading him to reject all things evil in petty spite against his "mother."
(Basically the thought of taking a demon looking tiefling, giving him the most evil upbringing I can think of, and yet making him a sweet lawful good paladin tickles me pink)
I typically use point buy, which not counting racial/class mods is 15, 10, 14, 8, 10, 14, but I'd be interested in rolling for stats
Previous D&D experience: I only started playing early this year. I did that Hotel Corona campaign which was fun, currently doing one called Allansia Wildlands here too, and I've got another one on Discord I'm doing.
Backstory: "I can never go back now," Lo-kag says as he walks away from his village. He has been banished for leading his squad to death in a recent battle. It wasn't his fault, but as captain of that squad, he was held responsible. A native of Icewind Dale, he is used to the severe cold, and now serves as a mercenary so that he can buy food and gear. He is very blunt and has learned to look out for the most important thing, himself. But he will help those needs on occasion.
Experience with DND: Very little. Have never played in an actual game, but am participating in several PBPs. Has the sourcebooks and has read them cover to cover.
Backstory: The faithful of Lathander have become concerned with the things going on in Icewind Dale - the cold and the darkness, all offenses against the Morninglord. Rurik, an acolyte originally from the area, was chosen by the higher-ups to go there and investigate.
Name: Variety Race: Tiefling (Devil's Tongue Variant) Class: Wizard (Would like to go Order of Scribes) Background: Sage Backstory: Raised by her mother, travelling from Archive to Archive of knowledge, Variety learned a lot about... well a variety of topics. None would really peak her attention for very long, until she came across giant lore. She became absorbed into it, reading everything she could get her hands on. Especially after finding a book of myths that seemed to have a few torn out. That made up her mind for her, and she set out for the cold north, both to find artifacts and lore on the giants, as well as carrying the book of myths in a hope the people there could tell her what was missing. Sheet: https://ddb.ac/characters/39015014/DXytoV
Brief Tentative Backstory: Karl was born on the road to a pair of refugees fleeing Calimshan. They made their living trading spices and wine and taking freelance work with established blacksmiths along the Sword Coast. Still, life was tough, and the Brenners never stopped looking over their shoulders. Gradually they migrated further and further north but it never seemed to be far enough. Karl's parents are aging now, and he finds himself travelling further and further to make sales. Each trip, he fears he will return to find they have passed away. . . and this will be his farthest trip of all. (Tentative reason to be in Icewind Dale - selling wine or spices and looking for work as a blacksmith.)
Stats: STR 11 DEX 14 CON 16 INT 19 WIS 10 CHA 6
Experience: Started with 3rd edition. Been playing since. Skipped 4th. Dabbled in pathfinder. Honestly I could write a lot here. :P
Stats: STR 11; DEX 14; CON 16; INT 10; WIS 10; CHR 16 (point buy) -- character link available upon request
Background/backstory: Orphaned as an infant when her parents' employer failed to control a fire elemental he summoned for study, she lived in the city orphanage until she was about 6 when it burned down and has lived on the streets since then. She has survived against all odds, so she knows she is destined for something, and desperately needs to find out what that is. What better place to learn of the fire in her blood than the chill of Icewind Dale? (Urchin background)
About her handler: I am an old (literally) vanilla player looking to get back into the game. Have dabbled in Runequest as well as Tunnels and Trolls.

Name: Lia 'sparks' Diamondew Race: Half-elf Class: Rogue 1 then multiclassing into Wizard (illusionist) Background: charlatan Backstory:
Lia grew up with her mother, living in the city of Waterdeep. They got by, her mother working at the Yawning Portal as a waitress, while Lia was often left to run the streets with her friends. She eventually fell in with the wrong crowd, and started learning to pick pockets, as well as locks. When her mother found out Lia was brought to the Yawning Portal, where Durnin had a talking with her, that she pretty much ignored. Her mother was always worried about the lack of a father in her life, and offtimes Durnin tried to step in and help out his employee by being a male role model in Lia's life. She did not know who her father was in truth, but her half-elven blood, shown through the white hair she had, that could almost be passed off as a very light shade of blond, pluss her slightly pointed ears, told her that he was most likely an elf of some kind. As she grew older, she began to ask more questions about her true father, and, eventually her mother sat her down and explained that she had fallen in love with an elf. They had spent a couple years traveling together, but he had had to leave, since he was uncomfortable living among humans. It was a lie, and Lia knew it for a lie, but she also could see there was some pain there that her mother was very clearly not over, and most likely would never be over. She let it drop, but wondered who this mystery elf was who had sired her, then left.
When Lia was still quite young, in her teen years, she recieved a strange book, delivered to the Yawning Portal with her name on a box, the book inside. There was also a note, from her father. He wanted her to have a chance to learn the magic arts, so had sent her a spellbook from which she could study. With help from Dernin, they found a wizard in town, who was willing to take on an apprentice, and Lia began the study of spells. She was not the best student, but she did try, though her less-than-serious manners often recieved disapproving looks from her wizard mentor.
Even so, she is still working to master even the most basic of magics. In an attempt to get rid of her, she is sure of it, Lia's mentor sent her up into the land of ice and frost. He told her there was a special material up in these frozen snowdrifts, some sort of crystal that is harder than steel, but that held magic within. She was to get some for him, if the stuff even existed...

Class/Subclass: Way of Mercy Monk
Background: Hermit
Backstory: Rashana was born as a Kalashtar which is a bloodline of the family. She was the oldest among the other two siblings, a brother and a sister. During her youth, her parents taught them about the spirit to which they bound. She and her siblings were taught to embrace the spirit and how to understand it. Under her parents guidance and discipline, Rashana grew into a calm, and collective person; though she still knows to let loose of herself from time to time.
When she became 20, she got a demand from the spirit to travel north and find the monastery that resided near the mountainside to prepare herself for the Dreaming Dark. She traveled across the forest and eventually found the monastery. She got accepted to the monastery due to her collective attitude. She was trained under an elven master named Eldryn.
She was a fast learner. After five years of training, she had learned all the martial techniques that her master had to offer. Eldryn thought maybe it was time for her to go out and see the world outside of monastery in order to realize her full potential. He sent her to Icewind Dale. Before she left, her master said to her, "Remember, what you've learned is to bring peace, not ruin it.", which had become her guideline.
