Before the age of the Magus, Argen found itself in constant warfare. Local Lords and Ladies constantly battled for land and resources. The age of the Magus came with the story that is commonly spread.
"From over the Endless Sea, there came a red mage who desired all to be free. He conquered the land and then departed, but not before forming his council of Argen. The council knew that it was his dream, to spread magic to all peoples seen. 'Magic is for all' he was known to say, so schools and colleges became the red way. In order to stay in communication, the council of Argen constructed magical locations. Assigning wizards to assist the local lords, from the southern deserts to the northern Fjords."
The year is 234 in the age of the Magus and the council of Argen continues to spread their magics and knowledge across the region. Their most recent project has been connecting the desert of city of Rakkis to the western hills of Galalnor. In order to achieve this, in the year 228, the mages of Argen dammed the Sabre river at the base of the Voiceless Mountains. With completion of the project, the river town of Frehold was founded to observe the dam and serve as a resting point for travelers.
For 5 years, the dam served its purpose and the road to Rakkis became ever closer to completion. But then, in the year 233, the forest seemed to fight back. Thick thorns and stickers burst into the valley below. The locals of Frehold halted the spread of the vines, but the walls and the cliffs became overtaken. Ever since then, no locals have dare set foot into Briarwall Forest for fear of their life.
The misfortune did not end with the forest. With the road construction ascending the mountain, orcs and gobilins have taken advantage of the quick travel to launch attacks on the town of Frehold. With the construction effort focused on the road, the locals find themselves ill prepared for these attacks. Thus the council of Argen has put forth a calling for all adventurers to come and defend the town until ample defensive structures are built. As adventurers in need of fame and money, you find yourselves approaching the river town of Frehold to do what is necessary to increase your reputation and the weight of your coin purse. Once in Frehold, the adventurers find themselves approaching the Adventurers Guild in the tavern of the Broken Arrow..
