I have questions: (These are not to judge I'm just trying to understand where you are coming from. And how I or others might be able to give better answers.)
1. Is your whole campaign set around this concept?
2. Are players going to be dog characters?
3. Is this for the story or just an idea you thought sounded cool? (not needed more for curiosity's sake)
4. You say "humanoid domesticated dogs". Are the dogs still owned by other people or are they their own society? - The reason, being If they are their own race and society then I would drop the "domesticated" part. Domestication to me implies they are like regular dogs only with humanoid features like hands and feet but still have animal instincts that are owned or cared for my other people in the world.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I live my life like a West Marches campaign, A swirling vortex of Ambitions and Insecurities.
This is just me creating a race. The dogs had kind of evolved and broke off to form their own society. They are races of dogs like beagles, labradors and other dogs.
I think I would do some research on how dogs actually form hierarchies and then make it much more convoluted by the addition of higher brain functions and opposable thumbs.
We know canine packs are usually led by the strongest, as nature intended. But how do the small/smart/savvy/clever dogs feel about this?
There is a lot to work out when making a new race. I feel like there would a huge bone of contention ( ;p ) if the many breeds of dog-people shared the same space.
Would nomadic packs of specific breeds be a thing? Packs battling for resources? Intermingling of packs to encourage genetic diversity?
So many possibilities. But a lot of work too, for history and lore.
I am working on building a civilization of humanoid domesticated dogs. How would you go about giving different breeds of dogs different ranks and jobs
