So having missed all the editions between AD&D and 5th edition, I've spent the last 6 months buried in legacy edition rules coming up with some options for my players with three goals in mind: 1) give them a little more power since they're usually a bit underpowered (a couple in experience and everyone's desire to go sans healer), 2) provide them a lot more customization options for their character's gear to add in a bit more intellectual investment and flavor to generally bland 5th edition armor options, and 3) give me some easy side-quest ideas to give them gems and other materials to covet.
Here's what I've come up with: Foehammer's Book of Secrets . I've taken pieces from 15 novels and legacy publications and developed a system for creating and upgrading weapons and armor (with a few more books marked for subsequent inclusion in future edits - wanted to get a finished product to my players now when they hit level 5 in our new campaign). I published it too late to get captured in the Christmas in July discount so I've knocked it down 50% through the summer sale. You can use either the entire document or mix/match whichever pieces you want - it also works with both existing rules and other 3rd party homebrew publications that use a tier concept.
Not bad.... the problem is, what time the D&D devs gonna spend to publish this book to the worldwide.
They certainly would not - if anything, they'd bring forward individual sections, or even just parts of sections, from legacy books into new publications. I think that's entirely plausible....but can't imagine that it'd be with an eye on this document though.
Also, along with a couple other additions and edits, the update this week will include an equivalent chart to integrate upgrades to the three main homebrew docs on DMSGuild: Ancestral Weapons, Complete Armorer's Handbook, and the one Guilds Adept launched this weekend - Armaments of Legacy - which helps if the reader just wants to take pieces of my document and add it into one of those.
We need the Complete Armorer's handbook ASAP. Because I don't believe all the different shields have always the same weight. And also, why there's not Shoulder parts as an extra accesory for armors.
Also we need a couple more of weapons.... plus the Wondrous ones. Ahhh, and the FoeHammer's Book of Secrets seems a nice option to be implemented in this 5th edition.
