So I'm running my first game and I've created this assassin faction called Blades of Grass. There's no way of identifying members and nobody knows their hideout. An encounter in my game starts with the assassination attempt of one of my PCs, he's going to be officially declared dead even though he survived the attempt on his life. I basically want a natural way of my PCs tracking and finding the assassin and eventually their hideout, upon finding it they are given the choice to join the Blades of Grass. Sort of like the dark brotherhood in Skyrim. How do I have my PCs track an assassin known for their ways of basically seizing to exist after they've completed a contract? I don't want to make the assassins seem sloppy or unprofessional, easily tracked.
Maybe focus on the contracts or the methods of killings. A recent series of contracts completed by the group had a similar target, high profile individual, wealthy merchant. This could give the group the chance to guess who's next and so set up an ambush to capture and interrogate or to figure out who's hiring them, such as a merchant or politician eliminating the competition and so 'speaking' to that person to see who it is they make contracts with, by what means are these assassins contacted. Of if it was a master crafted type of blade so they need to seek down such a blacksmith, a type of poison, only made from a plant or animal found in a specific location. Needing research to learn of these locations.
The Blades of Grass do use their trademark poisoned daggers, inflicting great terror (the spell of fear) on its target. I could point the Pcs towards somebody who could identify the poison and thus what the poison was made of and so on... Thank you!

Building on this, you could have the assassin trying to kill off anyone related to the purchase before the PCs can get to them. The players have to follow the trail of clues before the assassin silences them all.

the problem with assassins is how do you find them when you need them? this is always their weak link. they will need a contact point be it a member of a thieves guild that when approached will do a blind drop to get an assassin assigned for a cut of the fee.
if you solve this thats how the pc's might find the grass.
Follow the money - they aren’t just killing for population control. If they are assassins someone hired them. If someone hired them then they know how to contact them. Find out who put the hit on the PC find the group that took the job.
Locate Creature or Scrying. Particularly if he left something when he tried to kill the PC. A hair, the dagger, some skin under a fingernail when they struggled.
