I wanted to ask other DMs how are you incorporating lifestyle and downtime into your games?
I'll share how I do it, and I want to hear how you do.
So, whenever the players level, I give them 10 days of downtime multiplied by the level they just graduated from. So for instance, when they hit level 2 they get 10 days, when they hit level 6 they get 50.
I feel it is a fair enough estimate as to how much in game time has passed per level, so it makes sense in that regard.
The players are free to spend this downtime retroactively on whatever activities they want per the PHB and Xanathars guide, assuming they have the means.
Also it is time to pay up on that many days of lifestyle expense, which I have the players declare at the start of each new level. Players who spend more on their lifestyle get increasing rewards, while living an impoverished lifestyle is dangerous. For instance, an aristocratic lifestyle can get you powerful npc contacts, lucrative offers, an experience boost on your next level. Living a wretched lifestyle will give you exhaustion levels, get you mugged, and npc attitude towards you character tanks.

I really like your way of handling downtime.
