Hey All, I am about to begin Rise of Tiamat after running through both LMoP and HotDQ and I was wondering how people handle the provided council scorecard. Do you allow the players to see all of the necessary objectives to gaining a factions favour (ie Kill/capture Varram) or do you keep that from them. I'm of two minds. I feel like giving them that info is pretty much like an objective in a video game and is going to railroad them too much.... But on the flip side if I don't give them that info I don't know how to guide them towards making the choices they want for obtaining allies. I'd appreciate anyone's advice on this. Also I searched to see if this has been asked before but didn't find anything, apologies if it has.
Letting players know what the objectives of the adventure or campaign are can be integral to them deciding what path they need to take. If the party has a patron that they follow, or they want to gain the favors of a specific patron, that factions' objectives can carry more weight when the players make decisions. So, yes, I would think your players should have this information. No, I don't think that you should throw a copy of the faction scorecard at them and tell them to pick a path and then run just that. It removes the opportunity for failure and intrigue from the game. I would suggest that your objective should be to give them information without biasing the delivery so as to not influence the way they should go.
