So I'm trying to make an conclave of psychic monks, and I am trying to find an explanation for their powers beyond the classic "an abberation did it" or "they are just that enlightened". Any ideas would be appreciated!
The monks found a strange glowing meteorite years ago. They found that people exposed to its light slowly gain psychic powers. They put it in their meditation room, so the entire order spends time around it every day.
In what context are you placing the monks and what relevance does the conclave have to the campaign as a whole? If they’re going to be an important faction or element to the campaign, it would be a good idea to build a backstory with campaign-specific tie ins. Happy to help with that if you want.
Otherwise, here are a few other ideas:
- The monastery finds people with psychic abilities who have been shunned by society and takes them in.
- There is something special about the geography of their monastery, that confers the power. Perhaps a well or spring that confers knowledge.
- They are descendants from ancient sages who did something relevant to your world.
Thank you for the advice! I just remembered that gem dragons are a thing, so I am planning to base it off of that, so that they can fit into my larger world well
