I’m preparing to run Tomb of Annihilation and I have an idea for a story arc that will fit with one of my PC’s backgrounds (his father is an archeologist) and continue the party past level 11 and I need some help to make it work.
The idea revolves around a relic that holds the essence of Eshowdow. I want to spin the story so Shar, did not absorb Eshowdow to take up his guise, but instead placed his essence in a relic. The relic is now hidden away in a lost Eshowe tomb in the Valley of Lost Honor. A puzzle/map/key to find this lost relic is discovered within a Netheril ancient ruin (Church of Shar). Ras Nsi learns of this key and sends his minions to retrieve it. Ras Nsi is very spiteful given his history with Mezro/Ubtao and desires to use the relic to either re-create Chult in his own image or unleash Dendar to destroy it all. While the party is going through the campaign, the key is making its way to Ras Nsi. Once the party completes ToA, Ras Nsi will be the next/final BBEG.
Where I need help:
How can I establish the Yuan-ti earlier in the campaign and drop hints at what they are doing? I believe there are AL adventures with Yuan-ti and Dendar that might work well with this. Can anyone point me to specific adventures so I don’t have to purchase the whole season?
Ideas to race Ras Nsi to the relic? Maybe the party had a chance to obtain the key first?
I’ll need a new stat block for Ras Nsi with Eshowdow inspired powers. What additional abilities/spells would make sense?
Ideas to make the final battle to stop Ras Nsi fun? Maybe outside Dendar’s prison?
Establish Yuan-Ti - Rumours of these around town or random villages. Strange tracks in the jungle noticed by the party and stumbles accross a small hunting party.
Ras Nsi race - again rumours is always good. Playeds come accross notebook or items relating to the quest and then choose to investigate.
Spells etc - You can just do literally whatever you want its your game
Final battle- have objectives other than kill Ras Nsi. Get to a location and recover the item (relic etc) help defend innocent civilians, escape collapsing temple before Ras Nsi etc etc. Make it feel epic.
