I am planning a Halloween One Shot for one of my groups. Since they completed Curse of Strahd last year. Strahd's defeat left an imbalance in the Domains of Dread and a mysterious figure made his way to the Amber Temple to strike a deal with the Dark Powers to be given dominion over Barovia and Castle Ravenloft.
The players will need to help the citizens of the renamed Boorovia discover who the new Darklord is and how to send him back to where he came from. This will be a 4-6 hour one shot for a party of 6 8th level character played for fun and humor.
So if you had to make Beetlejuice your BBEG what kinda of abilities would you give him?
Well, let's think about what abilities we see Beetlejuice employ in the movie...
The first and most obvious trait he has is shape shifting. He mostly uses this to casually change clothes as part of a gag, but we also see him transform into a giant snake.
He's also able to conjure other spirits at will, such as summoning an entire brothel on a whim, or opening a door to the afterlife so a creepy little ghost-pastor can show up to officiate his wedding.
The Ghost with the Most also very clearly animates objects, and also transforms them at the same time, such as turning art pieces into shambling constructs or turning multiple shrimp cocktails into monstrous hands that grapple opponents.
In that same scene we also see that Beetlejuice can charm and manipulate large groups of people simultaneously, compelling them to dance, sing, etc. It doesn't seem to be something he does readily... the whole movie would be over in a minute if he could control others at will... it seems to be tied to the song.
If I had to compare Beetlejuice to anything, mechanically, he's basically an extremely high level College of Creation Bard, with spell choices based heavily on Charming others and Conjuring allies... whether through summoning spells or animate objects.
Now how do you think you would build the Valak (the nun) from the conjuring in D&D, I'm playing a horror campaign where we play horror villains and I think the Nun could be made with a hollow one cleric death domain build, what are your thoughts?

And now you too can play with the amazing art and assets we use in Roll20 for our campaign at Hazel's Emporium
Looking at College of Creation Bard I think it really works well for what I am going for as a foundation to build from. Great suggestion!
