Have a player that homebrewed a spell and I was wondering if anyone that it is a little op. It is a 3rd level spell that let's you regain 2 spells slots of equal or lesser value and it can be updated also
I would consider it OP. Also the way it's written it almost seems like they can keep giving themselves spells as long as they are level 3 or lower.
There are a variety of classes that folks can play that have an ability to regain spell slots (wizards have a feature, sorcerers have sorcery points) as a mechanic built in and if that is one of the classes they were playing I would just let them in on at that.
On the face of it it isn't a little OP is is massively OP. As Justen said it allows an infinite number of 3rd level spells. What is the casting time? If it is 8 hours then the use would be very restrictive (cast a spell like glyph of warding first thing in the morning and get your slot back for some evening adventuring) but if the casting time an action or something, they can cast a 3rd level spell in a combat, and after the combat (or cast a spell like dispell magic out of cmbat), and as long as they still have a 3rd level slot free get it back, rinse and repeat through the day.

I should've added/asked about the time required to cast the spell (although that would have just been for background information... the spell just sounds OP with the way it was written... and it also just seems away to get around mechanics in place of the game versus bring something to the game).

I agree with all that. The spell is stepup as an action to cast. No way I ever let it be put into a game.
