Hey guys, gonna be running a heist gone wrong/ escape oneshot and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for level and enemies. I was going to use the firarms from the gunslinger subclass for fighter so the weapons are doing anywhere between 1d12 a turn to 1d8. I was gonna run it at a low-ish level to make shootouts more dangerous and to reduce resources creating a sense of desparation but dont really know what level to choose.
any suggestions or tips in general would be really helpful, ty
Are you giving firearms to all your players? How many players? Are you asking us what level you should make your players for the one-shot?
Desperation can come from two things - depleting resources of the characters, or giving them a time limit until Bad News happens, and making that time limit fast approaching. If you want to go the resource way, then as you said, running low level will be easier. Just throw a few medium encounters at the party to make them use up short rests / spell slots before giving them the big boss fight.
If you want the other kind of desperation, then set them up with a plot that will include something going terribly wrong. Maybe there's a local mine that will explode in an hour if the party can't stop it, or something. Just some food for thought outside of the level /guns parts you asked.

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
Those are some really good tips. I was gonna give all the players a firearm of there choice each (except hand mortar) with probably 5-6 people and have just figured out sorta 2 bad news events, 1 which will span most of the one shot (an escape timer as such to encourage them to get out before being swarmed) and a timer at the end to stop a train (still workshopping what will happen to train if not stopped) to encourage them to divert people and resources in the final boss shootout
