I've had an idea and I'm looking for resources to make it a reality.
I want to have a dungeon that has multiple levels and is essentially created as the party moves through it. So it has a starting point and an endpoint but everything else between is generated from maybe tiles or a list of rollable dungeon rooms and hallways. Putting them on the map is then up to the players, who have to make them form a path from where they are to the next level, reached by stairs or a portal or something.
Does anyone have reasonable ways to make something like this happen? My original thought was using dungeon tiles of some sort with a number on them and the number would determine what could be in that room/hallway after the players place it. My other thought was a table that players roll on that determines the shape and size of the chamber and then have them draw it on a blank dungeon mat.
What other ways are there to make something like a reality for a future game?
Well, essentially what you're designing is a roguelike board game; the closest model I can think of is probably DungeonQuest. However, I probably wouldn't try to use D&D to run it.

You could adapt the rules of D&D Adventure System Cooperative Play board games using tiles such as Castle Ravenloft and Wrath of Ashardalon.
These games basically let you pick random tiles to put in desired place and monster or treasure found in it.
