My friends and I are moderately new to D&D, and I am DMing for our group. I am making a Homebrew campaign, and I was wondering if this is a good or bad idea for a campaign. The lore behind the world is that the giants and dragons got into another war, and now dragons and giants are nearly extinct, and finding a worthy dragon/giant to fight is really hard. There is only one known adult dragon, a red dragon named Kadmiate. The continent they live on is medium sized, and is surrounded by water. But about 100 miles off the coast lurks an elder being called Oitul, which watches all boats that pass. Whenever a boat strays close, it strikes.
I have made the first dungeon, a young necromancer's lair. He is homebrew, and isn't very strong but has some Demons helping him. After the party defeats him, they will do random quests, but most have some kind of Demonic Cultists or Undead, which would point to the Demon Lord Orcus. The Cultists might mislead them, by saying stuff like, "I will be avenged by The Great Orc-" before dying. They meant to say Orcus, but instead only said Orc, which will lead them to hunt orcs.
After becoming a high enough level (not that high, but high enough), they will learn of a Lich, who's deals with Orcus is why so many Demons and Cultists are around. The party will see the Lich fight (and kill) Kadmiate in a fight, protected by it's undead. The Lich will have expended it's spell slots, the party will attack a really weakened Lich, but more skeletons will come and the Lich will retreat. Then it will try to anger Oitul, and make it destroy the continent, allowing the Lich to have a huge army of skeletons. Like I said before, this has some homebrew mechanics. The party will have to secretly disrupt the Liches plans, and stop the continent from being destroyed, while warning the contents inhabitants. If they succeed in foiling the Lich's plan, some nearby kingdoms will take action and defeat him with the help of the party. If they fail, then a new campaign can start as they search the seas for a new home. I am planning on making multiple ways for this to end this way, so I am not afraid of players going crazy.
Is it a good idea, is there stuff I should change, or is it completely terrible?
Sounds good to me. What you need is starting town and simple quests to begin with. Are you using Forgotten Realms / Faerun setting? If it is Faerun what area exactly?

I have already made the first quests, which is the party looking for the necromancer's lair. I have the starting town finished, too. The entire world is made up, except for the gods, which are Forgotten Realms.I

Edit: Fixed typo
