I run games online exclusively and I have never found a way to host a proper dungeon crawl for my players that feel right. I have beautiful maps, all the images google can provide, tokens, automated rules, etc. but never really know how I should run a dungeon.
Questions:
Maps - Show players all the map, use fog of war on a Virtual Tabletop, use theater of the mind?
Ask one player, aka "The Caller" where the group would like to go or go around the table?
Movement - if i use the map, do I let them randomly move tokens or ask them to move some prescribe distance?
Time - Spells, torches, rest, random encounters all key off time. How to track it?
Anything else I am missing?
I am currently using Fantasy Grounds but was thinking of moving to Roll20 for dynamic lighting and music since my campaign has moved from wilderness to now a fairly heavy dungeon crawl season.
Any thoughts on this subject would be helpful.
