Hi all, I hope this is the right place to post this!
I'm looking for a 5e one-shot for first level characters, which has a good balance of combat and roleplay - I've been trawling through the free modules on DMs Guild, and everything I can find is either RP heavy or combat heavy, but nothing with a decent split. The session is going to have two players who have some pen & paper experience and three people who are completely new, so I'd like to give them a game which showcases both the combat and roleplay side, rather than a straight dungeon crawl or a five hour roleplaying session. A rough 50/50 split in terms of the time spent doing both would be ideal.
As a DM I used to run 4e but its been about six years since I ran anything, and I've never played 5e, so something relatively easy to prep would be preferable, but I'm not too fussy! The reason I don't want to build my own is that while I do have experience in a campaign setting, I've never built a one-shot, so I don't feel very confident in my ability to create something which won't end up being way too long or way too short.
So yeah, if anyone can point me towards a good one that would be fantastic - thanks in advance!
Wolves of Welton is a great one-shot to start with- it was the first one I did as a DM. It has a great balance of combat/social/wilderness elements. You can also find some resources for this one-shot online because it's relatively popular- for example I used this town map and this area map and final battle map in my run.
The only criteria that it doesn't fit is that it's not for 1st-level characters; the module recommends a party of lvl 2-3. Still, I think it might be a good option for you because combat at lvl 1 can be so deadly.
