One of WotC's newest modules is Waterdeep Dragon Heist, a campaign based in the metropolis of Waterdeep that involves a lot of PC to NPC interaction, has stats for an item called Smokepowder. Smokepowder is the D&D equivalent of gunpowder. After the Lantanese sheltered the god Gond in the Time of Troubles 1358 DR, he rewarded them by showing them how to create smokepowder. Smokepowder is an uncommon magic item that has a volatility higher than gunpowder. AKA, it has a bigger boom. I am currently writing a campaign called Uprooted (Click to see another related thread), and I plan on using it, but I don't know how to incorporate it into the storyline and in possibly smokepowder reliant puzzles. Background on the campaign can be found in the link above. If anyone can give me suggestions, it would be appreciated.
