I was wondering how other people ran the four infernal war machine encounters. I tried to make them all a little unique:
The first with Raggadagga my party didn't have a war machine yet, so as the war machine bore down on them characters with misty step/dimension door teleported onto the Demon Grinder and engaged the crew climbing on the sides. This allowed them to capture it without the machine taking much damage.
For the next one with the horned demon, I ran it with the party being chased on their way to the next step in the main quest and trying to get away, and had Smiler show up mid-chase and turn the tide. They had time between this encounter and the next to regroup.
Working with Smiler, the third one against the necromancer was a head on collision game of chicken running straight at each other. By the end of it all of the machines got broke including Smilers except for one bike, party at half health and spread out at various nearby locations.
With these conditions, I had the Eighth Remnant show up right as they finished off the previous encounter, just rolling initiative to go onto the existing initiative order and swooping in to prey on the weak The leader went after the paladin one on one who summoned his steed for a side by side chase trading hits down a canyon. The two lieutenants chased the warlock on the only remaining bike ran a second direction (the chase ended when they ran into the tornado of flame complication). The Tormentor and its crew of four went to pick off Smiler who had fallen off his bike a ways away from the party in the previous encounter. He used Tasha's hideous laughter on the one driving and then took the wheel with his fey step, each turn using tasha's hideous laughter to shake off the demons and then run them over. The fun ended when the tormentor ran into a derelict war machine, totaling the machine and impaling Smiler and the last devil on board. The druid, wizard and lulu used powerful AoE on the bone grinder and with the crew dead it too crashed into a useless pile of jagged metal.
At the end of these four encounters, the party survived by the skin of their teeth using almost all of the spell slots and features, Smiler as well as all of the gangsters met their fate, and the only war machine left in usable condition was the Chain Demon's custom bike covered with chains and legion symbols.
It took a little creativity to add terrain features and direction of motion to the encounters, but it was a blast! I'd love to hear how other people ran it.

This portion looked like a lot of fun so we did it as a one shot when the quorum of our normal campaign didn't show up.
