The Walking Dead...that's it...I just wanna try and play a The Walking Dead tabletop RPG game with my friends. But don't know where to start...
I haven't been DMing for that long and even haven't been playing DnD for that long so I'm not even sure if DnD is the best format to convert into a zombie apocalypse. DnD is clearly aimed at a fantasy setting but I would love to use a lot of the same mechanics to build a zombie infested urban city. Most of the stats and skills would work fine in a modern doomsday scenario. I presume classes could easily be switched (doctor, marine, engineer, ...). Races and spells have to go I guess, but could be switched with other features and advantages.
Does anyone have experience with this? Should I switch to a different tabletop RPG system for this? Or is there an easy way to convert?
It may be that something like D20 modern would do you better than D&D. There are many, many assumptions built into D&D that you are playing in a fantasy world. You can retrofit anything into any RPG system but, it's better to get a game system that is built for what you want to do.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
I ran (for a short while) a zombie apocalypse game using fate core. A pdf of the fate core rules is available for free online from the publishers, Evil Hat. The issue is that it requires a lot of work on the GM's part or buy in from the players as the stunts (Class features, but personalized) in the rules are few and the system recommends making your own. I made up ability trees that worked like classes and ran it that way. Fate core is a very simple system, though it's quite different from DND. I still have the typed up ability trees somewhere on my computer if you want those. Though, I added some more fantastical elements, such as werewolves, vampires, secret agents, and reality warpers as I ran it in the SCP universe.
