So I am running a campaign in wildemount, and sometime soon they will have a dungeon. The dungeon is just a standard "These cultists are causing problems, wipe them out" sort of deal, but at the end they face off against a revenant from one of my players past. This is my first dungeon and I need ideas for fun encounters/puzzles. Do you guys have any suggestions? (Note: the dungeon is home to a cult of Asmodeus)
If the dungeon is home to a cult you'll have a few sleeping area's where cultists live/sleep/cook/study. Next to that, cultist usually summon bad stuff so make a ritual area where some cultists are busy with summoning something.
Maybe have a pit somewhere where failed summons get dumped, some weird aberration that feeds on it. As a puzzle you could do a sealed of part, the cultists are trying to open the sealed of part but only something one of the players carries can help open it up.
Depends on what you consider a "Puzzle." One way to approach this, if the cultists are hiding out somewhere in the wilderness or in a city they would have lookouts or guards at the entrance. The puzzle in question would be what is the secret password that they need to enter the cultist hideout. To play into the theme of being a cult of Asmodeus there would be a hierarchy of some sort or more law questions. Perhaps organizing the layers of hell as they appear and use this as well to foreshadow other events that you may have in the works.
