Hello, I am currently running a home brew game in which one of my PC's is an elf who's society has been wiped out save for a few including her and her sisters. So far I have tried to create mystery and tenson as she was separated from her sisters at a young age and hasn't seen them sense. A few sessions ago she ran into her sister whom I had helping the BBEG and had been transformed to look like a drow.
My initial idea was that the BBEG had kidnapped her youngest sister, and forced her two other sisters to form a pact and serve him in exchange for her life. My PC doesn't know all these details yet as I'm trying to slowly feed them bits of info as she'd trying to unravel the mystery of what happened to them and why they changed.
So after all that my question is simply, is this too boring? Is it interesting enough that her sisters turned evil just to keep her youngest sister alive?
I don't think its boring at all! Especially if the player doesn't know that the older sisters are being forced to help BBEG.
The only problem with this that I can see coming is the same issue some of my players had. They made their character's main goal something relatively easy to obtain. Once the PC rescues her sisters (Eventually) then what? (also idk how long your campaign is planning on running so this may not be an issue at all lol)
I’d say to keep each sister different. It’s more interesting to let them be their own individual selves instead of indistinguishable. Maybe one is playing along while the other actually turned evil. Or maybe have one not be at all connected to this and still missing. Then you can have the ones he’s found decide if they’re willing to work together to find the last, missing one. (A redemption arc for the evil one?)
I like to drag things out and not resolve character plots until close to the end of the main plot. For one, it helps that character stay invested in continuing to adventure. For two, its good to have something hanging out there I can pick up and use if I need to.

The two sisters having separate motivations for working for bbeg is a nice touch! I may take this for my upcoming campaign lol
