I've been looking for miniatures for dnd on Amazon and all I find are the same plastic sets, either painted poorly or unpainted (and somewhat bland). I don't want 50+ pieces of crap but would rather pay for a good set of 15-20 figures of character classes. Thanks for your suggestions.
Also, any comments on the flat plastic pieces? They look ok although I like the idea of having sculpted figures.
I've heard good things about the 2d flat plastic ones. They're highly detailed, color and lots have a front & back side printed. Maybe not as "cool" as using a miniature, but definitely better than not using anything.
Ebay also has a lot of Wizkids minis for sale. Usually from their many booster packs and you can buy individual ones. I've bought a lot of specific ones for a campaign that I never got from the boosters.
You could find someone nearby with a 3d printer (sometimes local libraries or schools have some open to the public), and can offer to pay for the resin. One $30 bottle of resin could potentially print 100+ minis.
Facebook or other campaign specific groups. Oftentimes DM's who finish a campaign will sell off their whole collection of minis, maps, books, resources, etc. for that campaign you could pick up for pennies on the dollar.

@Jables1968 Thanks for the info! I didn't think of Ebay (or FB).
