Explore the dark pull of blood magic with this unique subclass to the Sorcerer in Dungeons & Dragons 5e!
This subclass allows the sorcerer to gain new powers by utilizing the dark secrets of blood itself. Armed with your blood vessels, you have mastered techniques to upcast your spells, manipulate life forces, and even heal yourself and others. Will you use this power to destroy and manipulate others, or will you use it to soothe the wounds of the world? The choice is yours.

This supplement contains themes of blood and desecration of the dead. Proceed with caution.
Design Philosophy
This subclass were created with a few key principles, for creating subclasses, in mind.
Give the base class access to meaningful new roles and options. In this case, grant the sorcerer the ability to heal, and the unique ability to upcast spells with a resource completely unique to them - blood vessels.
Enhance and build upon existing resources and themes for the class. In this case, the sorcerer learn new ways to manipulate their spells without sacrificing their precious resource - sorcerer points.
Offer inspiration for roleplay options when presenting something new.
On Blood Magic in 5e
There are many takes on blood magic in 5e, and they almost universally share a common cost - your own life or your own hit die that you would otherwise use to heal yourself. I have taken a slightly different approach, because I don't find it fun to sacrifice your endurance to fuel your subclass.
In this version, you can tap into your own lifeblood for a point of exhaustion, which goes away when you use your special abilities. Besides this, you can drain blood from targets you have slain, or willing targets. In my opinion, this provides your character with an interesting choice - be honorable and use your own blood only (which will increasingly make it harder to truly master this subclass), or fall to the darkness and draw it from others, like most blood magi do - earning them their dark reputation.
Thank you!
I hope you will enjoy this subclass, and I encourage you to forward any feedback you might have to me!
Someone just finished the Campaign of Dragon Age, yes?
I'll be honest, I generally don't like Sorcerers, and their sub classes all tend to lean towards broken. But I'll be honest, I do like the idea of a sorcerer who pays a price when they choose to cast their spells. Right now they just all seem greedy for power, and this puts a big F U sign smack in their path and says nope, you lose 15 health per fireball.
Thanks but that is not what it does 😅 this subclass work around the theme of draining enemies (or friends) of their life essence and use it to enhance their magical potency 🙂
