I have a couple of ideas, one of which I have almost completed;
1: A Deital Avatar has plucked random 'heroes' from other planes in order to aid him in evading the law. The only issue with all of this is that the reason he's running from the law is overly vague and the planes the PCs are traveling to on his behalf were effectively death traps. the PCs find out the truth as they explore.
2: The PCs are living in a scenario heavily reminiscent of the horror movie series Scream. Horror movie tropes are treated just as cliche as how players and horror critics treat said tropes. One by one, the PCs are attacked by a serial killer BBEG. Their missions are to figure out who the killer is and survive to see them unmasked.
3: The PCs experience a plane actively against them. Any action they do is canceled out as soon as it it made. The PCs are physical anomalies to this plane.

Fully Homebrew Campaign, feel free to explore it! (Otherworlds inaccessible) YonStore/Wolf&Rat - Siberius "Sie" Phynxx, Zalanthaar Heavensfield, Keilynn Othraph; Fallout D&D - Zach Koch; Last of Us D&D - Leveth; Town of Agreal - Zalanthaar Heavensfield; Scrap Pile - Æshe; Site-72 - Dr. Elias Shaw; The Electric State - Zachariah; Eris' Fortune - Magi (Maykaa, Mage, Sage); The Nightmare Hold - Keilynn Othraph; Lord's Rest Inn - Lokan'Ahri
My current homebrew campaign I'm running is where the BBEG is trying to create a potion that will allow him to control people. The party becomes involved because the BBEG keeps creating and testing versions of the potion that have strange effects, like turning people into zombies he has no control over, or turning them into giant deformed rage monsters that he has limited control of. I don't want to say too much more on here in case on of my players stumbles across this thread, but if you want more info, shoot me a message and I'll be happy to give you more on the campaign.
I could imagine a lot of havoc with that idea, even if you add on the potential of all the same alignment.
Just imagine a party of chaotic evil rogues! You'll just be running an underground empire by the end.

here's a campaign i'll be dming with my party soon, it still could use some details.
players should be level 4. it should only take 2-4 sessions depending on how focused the party stays.
SITUATION:
The kingdom of the Kuo-toa(Sloopbloodopple) and the kingdom of Tortles(Managog) have been at war for many years(70) and after all this time they have finally come to sign a piece treaty, in doing so, the Kuo-toa prince(Prin) and the Tortle princess(Damu) will marry to seal the gap between the kingdoms. However, 5 days before the wedding and 3 days until the princess arrives at Sloopbloodopple, the prince dies unexpectedly. the king refuses and orders no one to tell the people of Managog and instead he hires the party, assigning them to take the prince's corpse east to a witch who lives in the mountain who will be able to revive the prince.
OBJECTIVE: Reach the witch and revive the prince then return back to Sloopbloodopple in time for the wedding.
REWARDS: 75 gold each(100 gold if they manage to get it done ahead of time)
OBSTACLES:
Corpse decomposition: Since Prim is a Kuo-toa his body will decompose differently compared to others. when it starts to bloat it will release methane, hydrogen sulfide, helium, and carbon dioxide, making it float into the air. in the active decay stage his scales will start to chip and peel off slowly.
Forest of time: the party enters a forest where there are four sections. section 1, time moves faster in this section, making Prim's corpse decompose faster. section 2, time moves slower, making it longer until they are able to leave and Prim's corpse decomposes slowly. section 3, time skips ahead randomly. section 4, time skips backward randomly. 1 is east, 2 is west, 3 is south, 4 is north.
Sacrificial village: the party enters a village of humans. during their entry they see a random human discover a dead rabbit on the ground, he picks it up and pumps his fist "aw score!" he says before running off. the party soon realizes that the residents of the village are dependent worshipers of the god Baffkobb, who they believe to be the god of prosperous living and success. each resident has sacrificial fire pits in their home and they are obsessed with sacrificing. when they see that the party is carrying a whole corpse they beg and plead to use it for a sacrifice. OPTION 1: sacrifice the body. the party may agree to sacrifice the body, in doing so Baffkob will possess it and then complain about how slimy it is, he will tell the party that this is a big mistake and he never meant to possess the body. however, he will not be able to get out of the body. leaving the party another 2 options: (1) bring baffkobb back to Sloopbloodopple and have him pose as the prince long enough to get the reward, or (2) bring baffkkobb to the witch and have her exorcise the god out of the corpse and bring Prim back into the body. OPTION 2: refuse to sacrifice the body. resulting in angering the village and having them attack the party in an attempt to take the corpse. A simple battle with 8 opponents, when fleeing the village there will be 4 people chasing the party that they can choose to either engage in battle or evade.
The witch's ogre and cellar: when they reach the witch's hut she is nowhere to be seen. a black cat sits in the hut watching the party. when they walk out of the hut they are met with a giant ogre who seems to be in a blind rage, forcing them into a battle. when the ogre has fallen the players can search his body and find a key to the cellar below the witches hut, if they happen to not loot his body then the key will be given to them by the cat. they enter the cellar to find a cauldron and the witch sitting in a chair. she smiles and congratulates them on defeating her ogre and has them sit down while she takes the body. the black cat walks past the players and morphs into a young girl around the age of 12 with long black hair, she begins to assist the witch in the revival of the prince. they tell the party that the revival will take half a day, making little comments about the rough shape it was in.
Tortles: assuming the party returns after three days, the Tortle princess and her party will have arrived. so when they return with Prim they must keep out of sight and return Prim safely to the king. if they are spotted by the Tortles, specifically the king or princess, they will be questioned on why the prince was conversing with the party since they are a lower class, and will accuse him of plotting something. the party will have to try to convince them otherwise. (MAKE SURE the kuo-tao king makes the party aware that this might happen before they leave)
PM if you want the whole thing. I recently ran this for three players it was about 8 hours of real time and 10 days of game time.
"Avner Gerhardt is a wealthy merchant, who has made a fortune in trading weapons, crops and anything else he could buy and sell. When Avner acquired the Tears of Ehlonna, a relic of the goddess of healing, he knew he had a goldmine. Just as war leads to profits for arm dealer, a plague would be a boon for a healer. All he needed was a plague! Avner Gerhardt was not content for just any plague. He sent his hired wizard Faustus to find the perfect disease. Faustus brought Black Moon mushrooms from a far-off land. He grew the mushrooms at his manor and then sent servants into town, putting the spores in food, wells, and taverns. This created a devastating plague of Red Cloud to break out, killing rivals and creating patients. Red Cloud is so named because the infected person sprays a fine mist of blood from their mouth with every cough for their last agonizing hours. The players are on a mission to uncover the cause of the villagers’ deaths and discover the existence of the Tears of Ehlonna. The factions have conflicting goals of spreading the disease, curing the disease, and profiting from the disease. The players must decide who to side with and, consequently, who they will alienate."

I am a 40 something year old physician who DMs for a group of 40 something year old doctors. We play a hybrid game, mostly based on 2nd edition rules with some homebrew and 5E components.
A Percy Jackson themed campaign where everyone is a demigod except one player who is just a normal human and they are trying to make the human player immortal, they can do whatever they want but many monsters and gods themselves will get in the way of their quest
Have you ever used an Adventure module? I would start there.
I am a horrible human being because this made me laugh.
But i will throw people a bone. Hook: The Characters live in the same town and have grown up in each others houses the players are in the market when the alarms are raised for fires in different areas of the cities. when the characters arrive at the scenes of the fires they are horrified to find that it is their homes that have burned and that their parents were killed prior to the fire took their home. Over the next few days as the players take stock of their lives they find that their parents were once adventurers as they find their gear hidden in various spots. they also find shards of something they don't know what it is exactly but the question remains what do the shards form, was this the reason their parents died and who killed them and set the fires. In the course of finding answers you can take the campaign a myriad of ways .....
Im currently running a campaign so here are some tips I found useful.
-build a diverse world with a fleshed out map. Have political tensions and relations between different groups.
-create a large problem. A classic example is a dragon but you could do anything. (I was in a campaign where the problem was that the earth stoped spinning, causing half the world to be plunged into darkness.)
-ASK YOUR PLAYERS. Dms often forget to talk to the players. Create 3 or 4 ideas ad let your players pick.
-take inspiration. There are plenty of good story’s in this world. Pull bits from different story’s and you’ll get something original.
-be creative.
-have fun. No one wants to Dm a world they hate. Make sure both you and your players enjoy this world
I have an idea so it goes like this. There’s a big bad dude called the demon King and he’s got this thing that’s worth like 1 million runes which is basically the world’s currency. It’s called the Crimson Crown and just for perspective one rune is two cents in USD so the Crimson Crown is worth a lot in this world so a band of thieves come together to go through the aisle of shadow, which is an island plague of evil by the demon King, and where the Crimson monastery is and their goal instead of defeating the demon king because well he plagued the world of evil and darkness and all that kind of stuff which would sound normal but instead they want to steal the crimson crown so they can sell it like they don’t even wanna kill the demon king they just want his crown which sounds like it would be a pretty fun campaign NGL
I’m a world builder dm so I have some pretty cool campaigns. My favorite campaign is a worldwide Cold War with doppelgängers and mimics teaming up and trying to take over the world. So they try to replicate sauces and invent this store called “Saucy and more.” Do with this information what you will.

After your OP party destroys there pantheon the demiurge takes interest in them.
He summons a few star golems to test them.
Yellow sun golems would be humanoid soar system destroyers and blue sun golems would be dragon small galaxy level destroyers.
GL to the group.
This is awesome!

I’m a world builder dm so I have some pretty cool campaigns. My favorite campaign is a worldwide Cold War with doppelgängers and mimics teaming up and trying to take over the world. The players are part of a secret society dedicated to defeating the doppelgängers and mimic alliance. Since the doppelgängers can disguise themselves as humanoids, it can lead to some fun twists. I'm currently DMing a PBP where the world has been plunged into darkness for several hundred years. Caused by a lich's failed attempt to rise to godhood.
Ultimately the party's goal is to stoop the lich's second attempt at the ritual, and bring back the sun.
Did you play FFXIV Shadowbringers?
No.
That's basically the plot of that game. Maybe a place to look for inspiration!
Will do thanks.
