Is XGtE considered a core manual? Asking because an NPC in In Scarlet Flames has the spell thunder step which is in XGtE, but the introduction says you only need the core manuals. I always though that was the PHB, MM, and DMG. Am I wrong or did WoTC make an error?
Seems like an error to me, unless maybe the spell is also in the free supplement they released for Temple of Elemental Evil? Even in that case, it seems like an oversight.
Well 4/5 of the pregen characters use subclasses in XtGE or Tasha's so....
But yeah when I think Core Books, a lot of people think PHB, DMG, MM. Some folks feel XtGE is integral to the core too, and it looks like the editorial process to create this promotional content either didn't care or wasn't clear about what core books meant.

I don't see them doing anything about, frankly. But they are engage able via Facebook, Twitter and the like even though I don't see them rewriting the free adventure. And like I said it's not clear whether it was actually an error from WotC/MtG view. They could well see the narrow or broad view of core. I guess it comes down to what might show up in the Magic edition they're promoting.

Yeah. The funny thing is that there isn’t an (easy) way to contact WOTC about the error.
