I've been designing a world in DnD based off of Minecraft, and am curious if people would be interested in that sort of thing. (I've been designing all the custom monsters within Minecraft, and have created a loose world lore.)
A few starters before people ask any questions: The world is not going to be played in Minecraft itself. Yes, all custom mobs except ones that incredibly hard to add will be made. (I think we're clear on this) Each custom generated structure in Minecraft will become a sort of dungeon for the players, with some of my own added into the mix. The gameplay will be somewhat inspired off of Minecraft's crafting, building, and other mechanics, however it will not be a main focus. I will add all of the, biomes, structures, and magic items, (Such as an elytra, most enchanted armor, most enchanted weapons, and custom materials like Ghast Tears.)
Feel free to ask me questions, give me feedback, or anything else like that.
Will the focus be more on survival on crafting, or more traditional adventures? I feel like this does have potential for some really interesting gameplay, but I do wonder about how much roleplay potential there is with this concept.
It'll have a mix of both, mainly traditional adventures but a lot more exploration involved. It'll have a fairly basic plotline I think, of take down evil order A, take down evil dragon B, all that good stuff. For downtime, I've made it so there are no taverns, so the players have to make camp or go into a village to rest peacefully, (and even then there's only so much protection a village provides.) During downtime, or otherwise, you can make your own items, potions, and more using fairly basic tools and materials. (Or you can borrow the workstation of someone in a village.)
Most of the time, players are going to be exploring, finding a few new materials while in a dungeon, or on the way to one, and head back to make something. EX:
You're on your way to the fabled Lost City of Nemotha, but on the way you find a wrecked ruin, which includes a book of enchantment (For sake of simplicity, we'll make it +1 armor enchantment.) You enter the city, defeat a few baddies, and come across a really nice set of armor made from iron. You head back with the armor in your pack, and ask the town enchanter to enchant the armor for a hefty price.
I feel like at least one person in that campaign will try to make their character Dream or Technoblade or something... if they had an epic childhood they might try to play as Stampy Cat or DanTDM

Thing is, I'm not telling my players that it's Minecraft based because I want to see their reaction.
(This might play out more like a dark fantasy game actually with the terrifying creatures)

Funny idea though!
Dark fantasy would work rather well

I would recommend allowing players to create their own tools and magic items. The player lists a magic item they want to make (within reason), you list what they need to craft it, and if they succeed in making said item, discuss the details with them. For example, if they want to make a Flameblade, maybe they need obsidian and magma cream!

Exactly what I was thinking, there'd be an emphasis on creating your own tools and items to create a unique style, although I might introduce new components, like for a lightning blade, you'd have to kill a charged creeper (Or "Sorrowed One," as I've decided to call them in this game.) to get charged gunpowder, to use as a component in creating the item.
For some cool lore ideas you should look at Game Theories videos on minecraft lore, they are very interesting
I've taken a look at those, and they're pretty cool. I'll be using a bit of the lore, such as ancient builders, but add a bit more of my custom lore, like the Blighted Order, an order that served the Wither, the Society of the Undying Lazuli, an order of Testificates using Lapis Lazuli to create zombies and totems of undying.
I just wanted to mention that the dnd YouTuber Blaine simple has made a video on the how to appropriate Minecraft mobs into dnd just a idea.
I saw this as well, but decided I'll come up with a few of my own stat blocks with the new mobs that have been added to the game, (I'll also be using unused mobs, like the giant, Illusioner, and some of the mobs that weren't voted on during Minecraft live.
But there are some good stat blocks there, so I'll take them when needed.
Perhaps the players, instead of killing the Ender Dragon like in normal Minecraft, have to defend it. Perhaps the Blighted Order wants the Dragon Egg to conduct some ritual to empower the undead they create! I think this would be a cool plot twist of 'the bad guy isn't really the bad guy!' that would be very satisfying.

Yes, very nice idea. However maybe I could add more than one kind of dragon, although they'd be weaker. Maybe an order of skeletons that ride wyverns or something might be interesting. The Wither will be a sort of roadblock against the Ender Dragon "fight," guarding the stronghold.

Here's some quick new Dragon ideas:
Ghasthunter Wyverns: Nether dragons that roam Soulsand Valleys in packs and kill ghasts for the salt content in their tears.
Blackstone Drakes: These drakes lurk in the Basalt Deltas, and can spew magma and ash from their maws.
Mesa Wingless Dragons: These flightless dragons run across the rocky mesas in packs searching for weak prey.
Deepmarsh Drakes: These peaceful, herbivorous dragons eat water plants tat grow in the dense marshes.
Sea Dragons: Giant seahorse-like dragons that eat coral.
False Ender Dragons: Smaller, weaker dragons that imitate the Ender Dragon to scare off predators.
I hope you like these concepts! I spent a long time coming up with them!

Awesome idea man! I'll post some stat blocks for these, maybe I'll use them, depends on the adventure. Also sorry for not responding sooner, stuff happened.

Over Thanksgiving break, I came up with a bunch of new mob ideas. If you're looking for more, Minecraft Dungeons has a load of mobs that aren't in the base game, like yaks, Windcallers, and Vine Whisperers!
Soulfire Blaze: A blaze made of Wither Skeleton bones and Soul Fire that serves the Blighted Order.
Prismarine Golem. A deep sea golem that fires blasts of scalding or freezing water from its core.
Mimicube: Little, violet slimes that copy the first weapon they are hit with, and use it against their attackers!
Blaze Vanguard: A powerful blaze that protects itself with shields that orbit around it.
Life Creeper: A creeper that instead of exploding, causes plant life around it to grow super fast when it bursts!
Scorched One: A charred zombie that hurls cinders and explodes when killed.
Wandering Traders: Villager, Endermen, and Skeleton wandering traders that travel the lands with odd companions.
