I use Roll20 and would like to incorporate some sounds/sound effects when the players do things. Open a chest, use the chest opening from Zelda. Do something stupid, the Boing sound. Fall down a pit trap, the Wilhelm scream.
I am looking for other sounds that may be useful/fun/funny to include in this list.
Feel free to suggest the circumstance and the sound effect that is useful. Include the sound file link to make life easier or if the sound is difficult to explain.
Some gameshow sound effects could be fun. Ding-ding-ding for players figuring something out, or a buzzer for getting it wrong.
Various video game "You died" or "Game Over" themes could be used for screwing something up or failing a check.
For falling sound effects, there's the classic slide whistle. Though I've always been a fan of the scream they used in the original Prince of Persia (https://youtu.be/4NZuDe9_mas?t=49).
Be aware, it's usually best to use these things in moderation. Falling is probably uncommon enough to always use a sound for it, but failing skill checks probably only needs it on repeated failures or when somebody rolls a 1 or is trying something that was a bad idea to begin with.
*Players from Isentaan campaign stop reading now! Spoilers!*
My PCs are soon going to encounter the ghost of an NPC, who is one of their PC's from a previous campaign. Those PCs are the epic heroes of old in this campaign, and they know that, as well as knowing that I continued the story of those PCs on (the campaign ended at level 8 when the old DM quit - in the new game they travelled to my campaign setting when they escaped Barovia and became lords of the realm 100 years ago).
I've told one player that I'm making a cinematic movie for a vision/flashback, and got him to send me recorded clips of his old character saying various dialogue via WhatsApp. I've then added those into the game via Roll20.
BUT!
They are actually going to fight the NPC ghost as he tests their strength to see if they're worthy of taking up the old mantle (they are level 10 now). I've disguised what he was recording with getting him to record misdirects (voice notes that I won't be using) which imply a different narrative. I'll actually be using them when he casts spells on them (stuff like "Fires of Helm consume you!" when he casts Fire storm, or "So, there's still some fight left in you!" after they use a defensive ability. I can play these as sound samples during the fight so he's still voicing his own character :D
At the end of the fight, his own former NPC will give him a cryptic message implying that his new character and the old are blood relatives, which he doesn't know about yet :D And he recorded the message himself completely unknowing, thinking his old PC was talking to my old PC (they were brothers). He's gonna explode.
