I've been promoted from player to DM in our group since our last DM moved for studies to a vastly different timezone and scheduling became a problem. So I've decided to run the Lost Mine of Phandelver combined with Dragon of Icespire Peak, because I already ran a bit of the LMoP for an irl group before and I own the DoIP in physical form, so reading up on it is easier. But now I have a bit of a problem. Thundertree is a location in LMoP, that is home to a young green dragon. But since I am using Cryovain from DoIP as the BBEG, I don't want to just throw a second dragon upon my players, especially since from what I understand, the younger dragon would have been chased off by the more powerful one.
So I've been looking for a substitute monster to put in the dragon's place. It's a CR8 creature and since the town's theme is mostly zombies, twig blights and some spiders I've decided that maybe a Corpse Flower might be an option?
Now I will admit, I never had to adjust a module like this, so I am not quite sure if the beasts are of similar difficulty level. This is why I came here to ask for advice. Would it work or would some other creature make more sense/be more fair for the players?
I ran sunless citadel being located near Thundertree as a side quest when I ran LMoP you could have the Thundertree bbeg be a Gulthias Tree / Tree Blight

What about a Sword Wraith Commander? They’re a CR8 undead creature.
I really like D&D, especially Ravenloft, Exandria and the Upside Down from Stranger Things. My pronouns are she/they (genderfae).
