In games where it's fitting, I openly encourage players to do crazy stuff. Go wild, be heroes - it's not a game of what would likely succeed for me in the real world, it's a game of what could my power fantasy character achieve in a fantasy world. So, if gritty realism, not so much, but otherwise I encourage players to go overboard, and if they want to try something actually suicidal, I'll tell them their character knows that it would be suicide. I they try anyways, I crush them under the full weight of the rules (they usually survive regardless - PC's are surprisingly resilient).
This doesn't involve fudging though - just leniency. You wanna leap from the top of a tower, to beat a flying enemy wizard unconcious with your bare fists - then actually somehow land safely below? Sure, roll the dice - and then I'll set the DC's to be manageable, and I'll make sure there's a flag pole halfway down to catch on to, and/or a pool to land in.

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
