I'm a first time DM and running a Lost Mines of Phandelver campaign and I'm allowing my players to build and customize Tresendar Manor how they see fit, but some of my players are intimidated by the prospect of visualizing and designing an imaginary space. Are there recommendations, mobile apps, websites or ideas that I can give them to help them imagine their own space?
Well, incase you don't have one, here is a map of the manor someone on reddit made:
LMoP – Tresendar Manor Restored as Player HQ [68 x 33]
I had several people mention that after completing the initial adventure, “Lost Mine of Phandelver”, their party decided to restore “Tresendar Manor” to serve as their new PC Headquarters and base of operations. They went about contracting mason and carpenter guilds and, after enough time and trouble, their new version of Tresendar Manor was complete.
In the process of creating Tresendar Manor in full disrepair, I decided to first create a restored version, so that it would be a bit easier for me to deconstruct it and have a sense of rooms, flow, furniture and such. The style and dress of this restored Manor is more in line with a Player Character Headquarters, in that many of the bedrooms have been constructed to reflect a particular class (i.e. rogue) or group of classes (i.e. magic-users of some type).
The Restored Tresendar Manor contains:
Main Foyer
Blacksmith’s Quarters & Forge
Artificer’s Quarters & Workstation
Small Guard Barracks
Servant’s Quarters & Office
Main Hallway
Grand Dining Hall
Study/Library
Vault
Kitchen & Storage
Bedrooms dressed as Wizard, Rogue, Bard, Fighter/Barbarian and Cleric/Paladin.
Main Common Room
Baths
Bathrooms
I will be next be deconstructing and creating the fallen Tresendar Manor, as featured in the “Lost Mine of Phandelver”, as well as the area beneath it. These will all be released in the next support pack on my Patreon, so – if you would like these and all the other LMoP (and other) maps, come join us!
As always, I would love to hear your comments/feedback!
From there, let your players explore their new space like brand new home-owners and see what parts they are drawn to and what changes they might want to make.
An nteresting resource for this is Aquisitions Inc where they get to improve their “ corporate base “ as they tier up. There is as a led third arty strongholds booklet that shud be it the DMs guild that has helped me in the past. One key trick from building ruins without courtyards is to realize that only the first floor is “set in stone” (perhaps literally) and you can pretty much do what you want with all other floors you incorporate.
