My players have just reached the Tomb and are level 7. Do they stand a chance? What adjustments might someone recommend? I've chosen traditional XP rather than milestone XP just to clarify. Party composition - Barbarian, Fighter, Cleric, Wizard, Rogue.
I don't really think there's any reason to turn down the danger. My party is currently on the second floor, and we're 6th level. The players will just have to be more careful. Also, you can crank up the xp you give them to get them up to the right level faster.

If you are only awarding XP for combat encounters then the characters will lag well behind the target levels. XP in the jungle is anemic. Even in the tomb, most of the threats are environmental (traps and similar). The number of creatures and XP available that way is minimal. So if you are awarding XP mostly for combat, the characters won't be progressing that much in the tomb.
As for surviving, many of the challenges are environmental. There are traps, there are bad things that happen if you do something the wrong way. Some of these are deadly and most of them aren't really level dependent. As a result, level isn't crucial to dealing with most of the tomb.
However, this pretty much goes out the window when you get to the end. Hags, Atropal, Soul Monger, Acerak ... if your characters have the accepted the spirits of the nine gods then they might have a chance.
When I played it, we had a party of 7 at level 11 or 12 against the Atropal and the Soul Monger (plus the remaining dwarves and a couple of other creatures from the tomb). We had at least one or two characters go down (and back up) ... though we defeated Acerak in the end. Acerak was actually easier than the Atropal+Soul Monger in our case.
The DM can make anything work if they want to but although the tomb can be run at a lower level, the final encounters really could use those extra levels unless the DM wants to scale them back.
Nice thank you for the tips/anecdotes. I feel better about the party entering at level 7 now! They have just finished reading/investigating the obelisk outside in Omu (without releasing the Nalfeshnee).

Thanks in advance!
