I have a large animated diamond that is going to attack the party if they pull it out of it's resting place. Not really intelligent, so there is no need for anything mental, but I need to know how to figure what it's saves would be against spells such as Shatter (our wizard's favorite spell) and such.
Is there a guide for something like this? I've looked but can't find anything for 5e.
Normally you don't have saves vs. specific spells. You have saves vs. an ability, like CON saves or DEX saves. Shatter says it gives a CON save. I could easily see an animated Diamond having a very high CON. Diamonds are one of the hardest substances known. While I'm at it I'd probably give it proficiency with CON saves and maybe even Magic Resistance vs. Thunder. It's VERY hard to shatter a diamond.
The easiest thing to do is not make the diamond any kind of a creature, then Shatter is off the table. Then the group would be more reliant on physical attacks against a high AC object.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
You might look at Crystal golem for some ideas. I realize diamonds are very different from crystals, but it’s about as close as I can think of.

Here is the info on objects from the DMG:

Thank you Xalthu. I think, with a few minor modifications, this would be perfect.
Note, it's not a real diamond in the end, but for intents and purposes, it appears to be one, until (and IF) they get it out of the tower.
