This one is pretty much self explanatory from the title, but I'm looking to make my life easier running a RotFM campaign by collecting the most useful set of rules and tables relevant to the setting, and putting them all into one tidy google sheets document. I've not used a DM screen before, opting to either commit rules or memory, or make them up on the fly, but I'd like to feel more organised for this campaign, and since I'm running it online, I'm trying to reduce the tabs I need open at any once given time.
I already have a working document already which has the basic saving throws and skill checks for my players on one tab, a table of the NPCs they have encountered (and a little bit about them to jog my memory) on the second tab, and useful links and a break-down of each of the Ten-Towns on the third tab. I'll probably want a forth tab to cover things to do with travel, such as how long it would take them to get to place to place, and some of the special rules with dealing with the hazards of the frozen environment. I was also thinking it would be a good idea to list the items available at the shops of each town too.
Was there any suggestions of other things to include, or is anyone able to point me in the direction of another 'virtual DM screen' they they are using that I can shamelessly be 'inspired' by?
Know this post is old,,,BUT I took a look andwhat you have right now is actually pretty good.Personally I use one doc for the Links/Towns/Maps ect.. and a slide show of the PC´s Infromation my version is a bit more scattered though so if you want something simple and kept together continue with that :)
Thanks for the compliment! I've been using it for almost a year now, and I've found it to be a really helpful quick reference tool for the little rules I always have to look up, and a tidy index for links to sections of the module. The biggest time saver has definitely been the 'weather' tab, since it's got all the steps required to generate weather and encounters in one place, and links to explain how to run them. Its also really easy to 'pre-roll' a weeks worth of encounters and store the notes in the cells of the calendar. From reading different published modules I imagine I'll continue to make unique 'DM screens' for myself, depending on what I'm running.
I long stopped trying to keep certain sections of it updated - the 'players stats' tab is just too much book keeping.
My only real gripe with it is that it's difficult to add in more tables of information to the tabs. I'm a bit of an obsessive perfectionist, so it just drives me nuts when one row of a table is taller than the others, due to a table next to it requiring more space. But that's just my cross to bare.
