I hope I'm posting this in the right forum - new member here, haha! :)
I've been playing D&D for about 18 months and have recently started DM-ing a campaign online via Roll20 with the same group of friends. I've started the campaign off with a short home-brew adventure to help establish everyone's characters and also get my confidence up as a DM. I won't bore you with the story details unless you're having trouble sleeping! ;)
This little home-brew is about to conclude and I'm intending to transition from that into Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage. I would like to give at least one of my players a personal issue with Halastar Blackcloak (or him to have a personal issue with the player), and wondered if there is anything that I'm unaware of in D&D lore that I might be able to utilise?
One of my PC's is a druid with a mysterious past. I had initially thought of making him one of Halaster Blackcloak's original seven apprentices, but sadly I see they are all spoken for, lol! The other PC's are a warlock with a tortured past who was forced into a pact with a fiend and has been trying to get rid of the fiend's voice in his head ever since, along with a cleric and a paladin, both followers of Correllon.
Any suggestions that anyone has would be welcomed, both from those who've played the Mad Mage campaign and those who haven't - would love to get some ideas how I can make this special for the players. Thanks so much in advance! :)
You could always tweak the game lore and give Halaster an 8th apprentice, unless your players are also familiar and super into the lore.
Unfortunately one of them would spot this straight away, haha! :D Although digging deeper, how do we know Halaster only had 7? As in, were they seen together as a group, or is it simply that only 7 have been historically recorded??
It is in the book already, Halaster is auditioning the whole group for his next apprentices. But the druid is the only one who was send a request to show up. As to running the Mad Mage, the Mage sees all but remembers little. In one level he has security cameras and speakers, I took than idea and ran with it. Take notes. The group can gain allies and enemies on different levels. Have those groups communicate.

Take care, and thanks again,
