The Flames card from the Deck of Many Things reads as follows:
"Flames: A powerful devil becomes your enemy. The devil seeks your ruin and plagues your life, savoring your suffering before attempting to slay you. This enmity lasts until either you or the devil dies"
One of my players drew this card. Planning ahead, I am wondering what sort of devil would be appropriate to fill the role of this card. Is there a particular creature in the Monster Manual that is the usual "go to" for this card? Are there any that work better than others?

This is one of those cards that is great for how much freedom it gives you... and also overwhelming for deciding on how to resolve it. I'd base my suggestion on what level your players are... whatever you pick should definitely be too powerful for them to face right away, but maybe it's not best to go full on Lord of Hell unless you've got a group of players near level 20. I think what I've seen most frequently is a Pit Fiend... a solid CR20 devil that everyone knows to be afraid of, but without any major baggage in its backstory that you have to jump over. Something that reasonably has the authority to assign other devils and fiends to harass your players.
I’ve never used the deck, but my take is that the devil should be one who makes sense for the character who drew the card. The card does imply that the devil should be a powerful one so I think it would be reasonable for it to be a greater devil or a higher up lesser devil if the campaign is a low level. Also the character who drew the card should be a factor in determining which devil it should be. For example. I think if a paladin drew the card, then it could be reasonable for the devil to be a Narguzon. For a sorcerer, maybe a green or blue abishai. AKA I think the one from the card should really just fit who drew it.
Have it be a Rakshasa, they fit the whole scheming charismatic devil villain criteria. I would also add a shapeshifter trait because they got it in previous additions and they need it.
